My twins turn a year in January. They have a big brother, so we have most of the basic toys for that age group (balls, instruments, playsilks, L&L Home, Leapfrog table etc)
In looking at their Christmas loot, I don't feel that I've gotten that one great thing I know they are going to love.

Can you guys suggest something specific? I'll throw two out to start--Frog in a Box

We also really love Viking Toys trucks, sometimes called Chubbies. They come in several different sizes. http://www.amazon.com/Super-Chubbies-Dump-Truck-Colors/dp/B000F4CX7Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1260367422&sr=1-2

We love our wiggly giggly ball: http://www.kazootoys.com/toysmith-wiggly-giggly-ball.html?utm_source=toysmith-wiggly-giggly-ball&utm_medium=shopping%2Bengine&utm_campaign=googlebaseaffiliate

How about some felt play food from etsy?

Seems like stuffed animals start to be a big hit around that age.

Do you already have a small play kitchen or workbench?

It may be out of your price range, but wheelie bugs are lots of fun with the 12-18 month set! Hope that helps!

Trikes? Trike with pushbar (I guess you'd need two pushers, though)? Some of them are made with seatbelts and such to start using this spring for your guys - I know that DS2 was on a trike pretty early (not pedaling on his own) and loved it!

DS2 is in the same boat - we just don't NEED anything but I wanted him to have something fun. We got him this Step2 cottage although I hadn't planned to get it (found it for $89):

OH if you can find this...
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2233968 its a nice toy ( can be sat on and scooted!)

FYI I have 4 boys and NONE of them have ever paid attention to mega blocks. I have a huge heaped wagon full that actually has dust on it.

Tunnels are a big hit here too. We also have the truck above- you might be able to find it on ebay. It is definately in our top 10 toys.

How about a ball run? We have Discovery Toys Castle Marbleworks since DS2 was 1 and it has gotten daily play. My almost 5 year old enjoys it as well. If you would prefer wood I've been drooling over this one:

Those were some really good suggestions! I'm off to google. Some of those trucks and things look great--and unlike ones we have.

DS2 is 17 months. He is getting a Discovery Toys Castle Marbleworks for his big gift. A friend has it and he plays with it for 20 minutes at a time.

Maybe Wow Toys trucks? Amazon and Target both sell them. They are friction powered. DS1 got Dexter the Digger after he turned 2 and still plays with it a year later. I am getting DS2 a few items (Flip 'n' Tip Fred, Ernie Fire Engine and baby one of the boats) for Christmas and then his first birthday.
