I am looking to buy some four yards of fabric to have a tablecloth made for my mom for Christmas (thanks to all who responded in my other post - but I never found just what I was looking for). My (wonderful) grandmother has agreed to hem it for me, so all I need to do is send her the fabric. I went to a decorator fabric store and JoAnn's today, with both kids in tow, and it was a disaster. And, I need a 60" width, which I understand is not standard. So, I figured my best bet was to just order it and have it sent but I have no idea who would have the best selection and who is reputable. I know there are a number of sewing mamas out there, so I hoped someone could steer me in the right direction.

I don't know if these carry the size you want -

I have no idea where you are located but a great place to buy tablecloth fabric is Fabricland. Unfortunately for me, its a mostly (or all?) Canadian chain but I really LOVE the products I've bought from them in the past. HTH

Unfortunately I'm in Texas - thanks for the rec though! You sound like you've done this before - do you have any recommendations as far as what to look for in the fabric? I was thinking either 100% cotton, a linen/cotton blend, or one of those sunbrella-type fabrics.

60 inches wide is pretty standard for home decorator fabrics. sometimes nice cottons or knits can be found in that width too. I'd start by looking, not at fashion fabrics but at home decor. All JoAnn's, hancock's, etc have a separate section with the big bolts on cardboard rolls hanging up. Oh, and most quilting fabric, except the fabric used for backs of quilts, is usually 45 inches wide, like fashion fabric.

have you looked at fabric depot? they usually have 30% off their online prices.

I personally wouldn't get a linen blend unless it was for special occasions only and you don't mind ironing. Ironing is not my thing at all...
