Hanukkah is lots of fun. But we'll be heading into our third brisket dinner in a row tonight. (That traditional onion soup mix kind.) Luckily today is at my mother-in-laws house so she'll have 4 additional entrees to choose from -- at least. She is an amazing cook & hostess (as well as household fix-it person).

It has been an ORGY of gifts. And we've only had two nights so far!!

I'm feeling that way with latkes!!! Night 1 had homemade ones at a friend's house...to go plate was sent home with us. Had some of those reheated last night. Tonight is community/synagogue party...so there will be more latkes!! I'm DONE with them! :)

I'm starting to think the true miracle of Chanukah wasn't that the oil lasted for eight days...it was the smell of latkes that lasted for eight days.

The miracle would be if the smell lasted for ONLY eight.

Happy Hanukkah! My boys are really enjoying themselves so far, and it's just us--no family in town.

Now, I still need to find places for Joshua's birthday presents--I'm not ready for the Hanukkah loot yet!

Not yet. DH made enormous quantities of excellent latkes on Saturday for our Hanukkah party. He is probably sick of making latkes - neither of us got to eat many because we were being good hosts. We have 2 more Hanukkah parties - one tonight and one on the last night - so I'll probably be done done done by Saturday.

DD is loving her little Hanukkah presents every day! I wish I got 8 presents this week too - heck, one would be nice!

All you need is potatoes, eggs and oil! (Sweet potatoes and onions optional). You can do it!

I'm OVER the latkes...every. single. night someone has either had a party of brought latkes over for us! I REALLY appreciate being invited/included/thought of...but I don't think I can handle any more. Doughnuts however...BRING THEM ON!!!

Seriously, this has been a great experience so far. My community/friends at my synagogue have gone out of their way to show me how to do the holidays and include me. I feel very honored.

I have 2 more parties to go to with DS. One is Thurs, one fri.

Just had my first ones of the season today. Cracked open one of the ten Trader Joe's boxes I bought for the Hanukkah Party I'm having on Thursday. I figure no one's gonna miss 4 latkes. But now I have to be done till thursday.

Yesterday ds said, "but Mommy, we need latkes for dinner because there's still more Hanukkah."

I asked him what the most important part of Hanukkah is (I was going for candle lighting and blessings, miracle of the oil, something like that.)

he replies, "the most important part of Hanukkah is keeping all the pieces together."

whoops. Guess I over emphasized how to take care of all the new games and play sets . . . .

lol!!!

We lit the candles and DS said "EAT!" so I asked him what he wanted...he said "nonut!" I guess he's taken the "nonut" seriously! No jelly donuts here though...
