at amazon. A fairly good deal since Lego doesn't go on sale much.

i have to say-- i resisted DUPLO for a while (considering my willpower is zero on toys, it felt like a while to me anyhow), but i'm not sure why i did :)

we got this set for 14 and change during the aol/target sale and my child has played for quite a while 2 mornings in a row building "towers" and "buildings' and various "cars." the little lego man and her stuffed tiger actually had a picnic today at a "table" she built. most excellent toy!

i think i resisted because she hasn't been into blocks. (and we have MANY of varying kinds) the interlocking pieces is special and of course, she loves them.

*sigh* i see many more pieces in our future!

I got that 33 piece set above for only $7.25 with the Target deal. The bigger one that I think you're talking about (with 71 pieces) was only $15. The Target deal was still way better.

Oops, you're right! I got faked out by the box and didn't pay attention to the # of pieces.

Amazon has the 71 piece set for $19.85 right now, not as good as the Target deal was, but still seems decent... http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Duplo-5380-Building-Set/dp/B000SI6JEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1261168282&sr=8-1

I really wanted some kind of building blocks for my DS and I'm tempted, esp. w/no tax and FS.

I bought Mega Blocks this morning ($15) for 200 pieces but read about Prop 65 afterwards--may have some harmful chemicals leaching out... or not.. not sure.

But the duplos seem very safe, no such warning.

Should I wait a little longer for the price to drop more?

Also, mixed reviews about the beginner's set for $12.50--is it worth getting?

What's best to get when first starting out with these? So many choices...

The 71 piece set is $18.20 now. I'm really tempted, but I dunno. I don't have any legos yet. Not sure if DD will even like them.

Duplos are $18.14 now.

They were $17.50 over the weekend. I should have bought them then.

Eh it's a difference of 64 cents. I say if you want them, get them! :)

Just in case anyone is wondering the Lego brand is one of the very few plastic toy companies I have ever read about in "non-toxic/green/environmentally friendly" articles and magazines, because their safety standards are so high.
Playmobile is one other one. So I feel very safe purchasing Legos & Duplos!

thanks, that's good to know.
i'm a huge fan of wood toys. any plastics we have were gifts. but sometimes you think a wood toy is high quality, but they sometimes have lead paint (M&D). i did buy some legos/duplos at the 50% target/aol sale and am excited.
