I've purged LOTS of toys of late, and we made a pilgrimage to IKEA for an expedit for the toys that remain. BUT I can not come up with a way to store the kids' books. I had them on shelves (a la the library) but that's not maintainable. So I stacked them on their sides on shelves. Also not maintainable. So I put them in baskets. It's easier for the kids to help with putting them away, but they can't see what books are in there, so they end up dumping the basket looking for a particular book. Gah!

Books are the ONE thing I don't mind having in abundance in various rooms of the house. But the piles are starting to drive me a little crazy! Any solutions?

We use this in DS #1's room

It works well. We have book case in the playroom and some baskets. And some piles in the living room which are eventually carted to baskets/DS's room.

I really like this for DS and I'd get it again. I had a 20% off coupon but it was $$.

I am thinking that once DS #1 is more into older kids books I will move it to DS #2's room.

That's GREAT!!!

In a similar thought, in my K class, for the smaller books, I used the white sterilite containers from walmart - the ones with dots (wasn't someone looking for those a while back???) to hold books in a similar fashion.

We also have those PBK catalina book shelves (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/catalina-magazine-rack/?pkey=dshelving-pegs-hooks), but we haven't been good about keeping books rotated in them. I long for their collector's shelves (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/collectors-shelves/?pkey=dshelving-pegs-hooks) in certain places around the house. I should just save up and order them.
