View Full Version : Have you ever re-gifted a gift card?

I'm not a re-gifter, in general, but I was thinking about doing this. I have received so many gift cards, and I don't shop that much. I have no time or interest. Well, I am interested, but it's not a priority right now. They are just sitting there, all lonely. The gift card in question doesn't expire and doesn't lose value for non-use. So it still has the original $ amount on it.

What do you think?

As long as the new recipient would enjoy shopping at the said store, I would say sure! Gift cards are generally appreciated by anyone, unlike most gifts that are re-gifted. :)

No, but I love gift cards. :)

But I can't see any reason not to do it if you think the giftee would enjoy going to that store.

If you got it recently then I would say it's okay. If it's something from Starbucks or somewhere that has known to charge a fee if it's not used by a certain date then I would take it to the store and maybe add a little more money so the fee doesn't kick in.

The only time I did sort of regift a gift card was that I bought a Williams Sonoma gift card for a Jr. League thing and ended up not donating it. I added $20 it to it, it was for $20 originally and gave it to BIL+wife for Christmas.

Really? I've never heard of that? I've had GC from Starbucks that I have lost and found YEARS laters and never had a problem. Is this a new policy?

All. the. time.

As a school counselor, I tend to get a lot of Starbucks gift cards. Now, I *love* starbucks and they are def. useful to me, but 10? I have no problem passing a few of those along! :)

Better to pass them along than lose them. I just read a couple articles on how 10% of all gift cards sold are never redeemed.

I certainly think it is perfectly fine. Don't remember doing it, but I certainly wouldn't have a problem doing it if I didn't want the card myself.

Ok, well, I'm doing it! SIL will get the re-gifted gift card. SIL always gets me a gift card, so this will work out just fine. ;)

Yes, but usually I will freshen it up a bit by using that gift card to buy a "new" gift card. So that the recipient might get the "new" style gift card.

All the time. I am not much of a shopper (especially in-store) and I am uninterested in most chain restaurants. I often have donated them to charity or given them away to others. I always use the book ones and the grocery ones, but not so much the Olive Garden ones.

LOL. I just did this for the first time. We received a $25 movie card and a $25 restaurant card many months ago. We haven't been to a movie since DS's arrival. So I sent them off to my Brother and SIL for Christmas:)
