View Full Version : Smelly Christmas Tree Water ?

I walked into the house last night,
and was hit by that weird smell of standing water from the Christmas tree stand.
Ugh.

Short of dismantling the Christmas tree so I can dump the water,
wash the stand, and start fresh, what can we do to improve the situation?

Is there something (non-toxic) we can add to the water
next year to keep it fresher-smelling ?

I don't recall having this problem before, so thanks for any suggestions you might have!

We do fake trees, so I don't know if this would actually work. Could you use something to suck up the water like a wet vac or turkey baster? Then clean out the bowl?

DH mixes a preservative with water for our Xmas tree. I just checked the bag and it's called: Peter's Christmas Tree Preservative. I think he bought it at Home Depot or Lowe's. It looks like small crystals that dissolve in water. Not sure if it will help with the smell, but it may be worth trying.

Thanks for the good suggestions...

I think I'll stop on the way home for a turkey baster and some preservative!
