Do your kids like them? What ages are they good for? DS1 is 6 1/2 and loves all kinds of building toys.

There's one coming up on Amazon's lightning deals later today and was thinking of picking it up for DS1's birthday this summer.

Thanks!

DS1 has one but IMO he is still a little young for it unless there is significant adult assistance. I would say 8-9yo is a minimum for playing unassisted with it.

DS is getting one for his 6th birthday, but he's very mechanically inclined and we're viewing as something to do with DH and my dad.

Thanks for your input. I think I will wait a little longer before getting DS1 a set.

I really like the erector jr sets. TJ Maxx carried them over Christmas, so they might still have them, and maybe even on clearance. It would be ok for a 6.5 yr old. The thing about the original erector set for older kids is that it's all metal and I don't know if I would trust a 6 yr old to keep track of that stuff with a younger sib around and having it scratch up the floor, etc..
