Book club is monday and i can't think of what to recommend! I bet someone here can help. :) We tend to like fiction, especially historical fiction. we also tend to get books that are already in paperback (and hopefully available at the library).

here are some that we've loved:
Nefertiti
Other Boleyn Girl
Snow FLower and the Secret Fan
The Help
The Thirteenth Tale
Gurnsey Potato Peel Society
Angry housewives eating Bon Bons
Honk and Holler Cafe Opening Soon
Kite Runner
Red Tent
Garden Spells

Ok, that's all i can think of off the top of my head. Suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance. :)

The Sunflower
Three Cups of Tea

Both of these are non-fiction narratives and would provide for excellent discussion.

The Shack - spiritual fiction...also provides for good discussion

Just finshed the Girls from Ames By Jeffrey Zaslow and thought it was great. I think this would be a good choice for a book club. Also liked The Help and books by Jhumpa Lahiri.

1,000 White Women
The Help

Loved both...and both are loosely historical fiction.

Kaffir Boy
They Cage the Animals at Night (not historical, but a big time tearjerker)
The Dutchess

Those That Save Us by Jenna Blum. Set in WWII and Minnesota modern day, it is the story of a daughter and the mother she is desperately trying to understand. Well written, engaging and sad but such a good book!

Subbing, I'm hosting book club this next wk (The Last Lecture) and we need new book ideas too. The only book I can suggest is Twilight. Every other book, our book club has done has been a big flop. We can't seem to get our book club off the ground, it's pretty lame and gets cancelled half of the time. Twilight was the only one where we had more than 2 ppl.

The Shadow of the Wind
The Angel's Game

both by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

IMO, the best two books of the last decade.

Also, the Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

I just finished Sarah's Key this week and really enjoyed it. It's not my typical type of book, but I couldn't put it down. It's a tear jerker though!

Those are some good suggestions, I'm taking notes!
I'll second anything by Jhumpa Lahiri and also suggest People of the Book (Geraldine Brooks).

oh yes! i read People of the Book (on my own, not for book club) and LOVED it! My book club read and LOVED Year of WOnders, also by Geraldine Brooks. I should have definitely added that to my list in the original post. We loved that so much, we read March, also by Brooks. we liked March but not as much as YOW.

Thanks for the suggestions! keep 'em coming...
