This bus driver in NY was driving drunk and one of the teen girls unlatched the back emergency exit and helped get all the little kids off the bus.

The punishment for the bus driver is a complete joke.

Wow. I live on LI and I don't recall hearing ANYTHING about this.
I'm horrified. At the incident, and especially the punishment. This could have been really, really tragic. I really believe that in cases like this (DWI with children involved but tragedy averted) the punishment should be as harsh as it would be if the worst possible scenario had happened. It's the only way to begin to show the seriousness of the crime.

Liz, I totally agree with you. It brought me to tears to see one of the older girls hugging one of the upset little girls. I can only imagine if that had been my child on the bus. The punishment is, as I said above, a complete joke. ITA with you that the punishment should be as harsh as if the worst possible scenario had happened. Thank God those older girls took action, or who knows, the worse case scenerio might have happened!

Wow. Down here even a first time DWI can get bumped up to a jailable offense if there are aggravating factors like endangering or injuring others, esp. minors.

I hope that her license to drive anything, especially a school bus, has been permanently revoked.

And can you believe that lawyer? His client would never intentionally do anything to hurt the children? Like what? Drive a bus drunk? I am so livid.
