I've gotten back into yoga and was wondering if anyone here can recommend a nice yoga mat. I bought a (cheap) one at Target and slipped all over the place! yikes. Right now I'm using DH's, but he's going to start back soon and will probably want his mat back. I'm using that as an excuse to get me a nice one.

Thanks for any suggestions! (please also include where i can purchase...)

OK, here are some links:

Lululemon Align Mat http://shop.lululemon.com/store/productdetails.aspx?productid=1540&rv=1

Half Moon Yoga Mat: http://www.halfmoon.bz/shop/catalog/?deptname=yoga+props&catname=mats

I actually prefer the Half Moon mats, they are stickier. Not sure if they ship to the US, I recall that they do.

Before you go out and buy a new mat try washing your mat. Throw it in the washer with a tiny bit of detergent or hang it and use a spray bottle with water and tea tree oil, or water and a bit of soap. Just rinse the soap completely or the residue could make it more slippery.

You can also use a small towel under your hands. Or look into the Yogitoes Skidless towels. They are pricey but worth it IMO. I usually do a Vinyasa/power yoga class and get pretty sweaty. I also sometimes put some rubbing alcohol on my hands and feet to get the oils/lotion off before I get too sweaty.

If you find your mat is too thin, you can buy 1/4 in mats instead of 1/8 in or put 2 1/8 inch mats on top of each other.

The studio where I used to attend classes sold the Manduka Black mat Pro. http://www.manduka.com/store/home.php?cat=254 We used to joke that they were the Sealy Posturpedics of yoga mats. Very cushiony and nice. I just couldn't bring myself to splurge on one. They are heavy and big. Especially the extended sized one.

ETA: I have been using a 1/4 in $20ish mat that I got at Marshalls or somewhere similar for several years now. A few years ago I added the Yogitoes towel on top of it.

Does your Yoga studio sell mats? I would start there.
Gaiam http://www.gaiam.com/category/yoga-studio/yoga-props/yoga-mats-bricks-straps.do has a really big selection. You can find them everywhere (I have even seen them in Barnes & Noble).
I have a great mat but I have no idea what brand it is.
Love Yoga!!

Thanks for the replies! Now i know where to start.

DH and DD and I were at the sporting goods store today to get new bike helmets and spend a gift card and i happened to see the manduka "sealy posturpedic" mat--OMG, that thing is heavy (and crazy expensive)! So i didn't get that one, but now i have a place to start looking.

If i get one that isn't slippery, I'll be happy. thanks!

I like my "deluxe" Gaiam one 10000x better than my ProSpirit one. I don't remember how thick it is, but I did get it at Target earlier in my pregnancy. (I'd misplaced the ProSpirit one.)

I only got the ProSpirit one as a stopgap until I got into a regular practice.

My next trip will be to get bricks and a strap. Bending over isn't my friend right now.
