Any experience with kids Tae Kwon Do?

I am thinking of singing up both boys for this, but wonder what the difference is between this and other forms of martial arts? It sounds like Tae Kwon Do has more self defence and less fighting but is there still sparing in the upper ranks? And do the kids learn forms? This would be hard for my middle son since he has motor planning issues but I also know that the repetion of the drills would be good for him.
