Ds1 has a half day this Friday. Growing up I often had this Friday off and it was a 4 day weekend with MLK Jr. day off on Monday.
Just trying to decide if going to the science museum that day is a bad idea (too crowded).

No, but they have Monday off and many people add an extra day.
We have a 4 day weekend at the end of the month also for end of grading period. They add 2 teacher work days to it, and a lot of people treat it like a mini winter break.

DD has a half day, but that's just b/c kindergarten literacy assessments are going on. (All K students in our district have half days every day this week.)
All of the students in our district are off on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

DS has full day Friday, then only Monday off, returning to school Tuesday.
I do wish we had a four day weekend!

No, we have a full day on Friday and then we have Monday off. Three day weekend only here.
Kids are out all day Friday at DH's school; teachers are working.

I've never heard of having the Friday before MLK day off, or the tuesday after. I dont have kids in school yet though. But I never had those days off when I was in school.

I'm a teacher, and we go for a full day on Friday, then we're off on Monday. No 4 day weekend here unfortunately.
DS has full day Friday and has next Monday off. I do not have Monday off (used to before we got acquired again.) I'm old, I really don't remember getting MLK day in school. Curious to find out when it became a Fed holiday.
eta: Was signed into law as Fed holiday in 1983 and first observed in 86, which explains why I didn't get it as a holiday as a kid.

This makes me feel old! Growing up MLK Jr. Day was not a national holiday!
My kids just have monday off.

It became a holiday in 1983 and was first observed in 1986.

I remember I was bitter because I graduated high school in 1986!

We do not have Friday off and I don't think any of the schools in this area have off Friday.
