We are getting an entryway system for our house. We are debating between one from PB and another from Overstock. Do you think the PB one is worth the extra $300? They both require some assembly. I'm leaning towards the PB one but some have mentioned that PB furniture isn't all it's cracked up to be.

We have a similar one from JC Penney. We do have some "assembly" type furniture from Pottery Barn and I have to say that for the money I am not all that impressed. Matthew's bedroom set is from PB and I do like that. We went with the JCP set because a friend of mine said - and she was right - it is going in the entryway and will be covered in crap most of the time. Obviously we didn't spend the extra money and I don't regret our decision.

Even if the PB stuff is better than the overstock or JCP stuff, do you think it will be $300 better? I think it probably won't be much better at all. Seems like an area you could save the money for something else.

No, I don't think it's worth $300 extra. You could get a nice cushion made and the cheaper one would look great.

I'm confused, are you getting just the bench? Because that's only around $180 more. I guess it doesn't matter, because I don't think it's worth $180 more either! Also, if you're ordering online from PB I bet the shipping is a lot more. And on overstock you can get cashback through Bing.

We have a cubby shelf from overstock. It's really well made. We are happy with it.

PB furniture is often not worth what they charge for it. They do have some nice solid pieces, but in this case, I would not pay an extra $300 for it.
I also know that I've seen similar entryway pieces other places, so I'd still shop around if you don't love the Overstock one.

I wouldn't pay the extra $300 for that. I don't know how much you've shopped around, but I've seen some other options, just in case you're interested. (I've been desperately searching for a 4 cubbie version, but haven't found one I love yet.)

Amazon has some as well.

We just ordered this one from JC Penney

http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=57087&CatID=60102&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=14c25ea&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CMID=57087%7c59202&Fltr=&Srt=&QL=F&IND=1&cmVirtualCat=&CmCatId=57087|59202|60102

It's backordered, though. :( But we did the comparisons with all the pricey things, too, and figured, like the others, this is just going to be covered in STUFF, so not worth the extra investment for what may or may not be better furniture.

I was just going to link to that one! $199 for the bench, cubby and cushions?! Sounds almost too good to be true!

I strongly feel PB furniture is not worth the money. PArticularly, it nicks up very easily, which I would worry about on a hall bench.

FWIW my cousin has some painted PB furniture for her DCs and it started chipping right away. So I personally wouldn't spend an extra 2 cents on PB furniture, especially for a high traffic area.

I did not like how PBK bedroom furniture wears over time, so decided to go for something else. I would be even less inclined to get their furniture for a high traffic area like entry way. So no, it's not worth double the price. For me it's not just how much extra $$ I pay, but how much more in % terms as well.

We have had the PB Samantha entryway bench (in mahogany)
for about two years now.

It came fully assembled, and it is very heavy and sturdy.

We also have the PB baskets that are shown in the link.
We use the baskets daily (to hold school backpacks, etc);
unfortunately, the bottom ledge of the bench does show
nicks and scrapes where the basket slides in and out.

Also, the PB cushion does not have a removeable cover
for cleaning, so that may be a problem for some folks, as well.

Overall, though, we're happy with it, for our current entryway.

We have had entry furniture from Target for 3-4 years. It is hold up well except the hardware on the hook coats broke. So I just bought new hooks. I have 2 tall cubbies that have 3 coathooks, an upper shelf, and they sit on top of a 4 shoe cubby. I just could not see spending too much money and I certainly did NOT want white--its not called a mudroom for nuthin!

I would look at something custom first. We don't have an entry way so I can't help, but we've had basic office furniture from Target for 9 years (wow!) and while it's it's still not the best it's held up quite well!
