Here's an even newer blog with all the AAP recommendations from 2011... http://carseatblog.com/9416/confused-about-the-new-aap-carseat-booster-recommendations-start-here/

http://carseatblog.com/?p=5168

This is a great article in carseatblog with all kinds of links showing why it's safer to rear face long beyond the bare minimum of age 1 and at least 20 pounds.

Here's a chart for how long a child should ride in a seat of each type (.pdf) http://www.carseat.org/Resources/651_Basic.pdf

How long in a booster? http://carseatblog.com/?p=3966 Discusses the oft-mentioned Five Step Test for seatbelt readiness.

What if my car doesn't have head restraints? Do I still need a booster for whiplash protection? Yep, Britax Frontier/85 is by far the tallest out there, check this out, even though the car does have headrests... http://carseatblog.com/?p=5671

Yay! Thank you for posting this.

BTW, I was the one who posted that DH wasn't convinced. Well, when I mentioned that we could tether the RA and MA, he said, "I've already given in on that. We don't need to discuss it anymore." So I guess score one for me (and for DD). Then on Monday DD's ped said to keep her RF.

So there. :)

Thank you so much! I've bookmarked it for myself, and posted it on my FB :) So handy to have everything all in one place.

I just faxed this to my ped. Their 12 month handout still has the old recommendation. When I brought it up to the nurse's attention she was super bitchy and kept telling me that their rec of FFing at 1 year and 20 pounds was up to date. :angry-smiley-005:

I hope the ped reads my fax and agrees to update the handdout.

Thanks for posting the link. Just yesterday DH was complaining about how uncomfortable DS' legs looked rearfacing & maybe we should turn him forward. What! he is just 19months old. Poor guy was pretty upset and couldn't understand why I bit his head off (in my defense, I thought we were on the same page on this topic & discussed about this before). Fwded him the link.
