Advance apologies if TMI but...

...being pregnant, of course I had to have a UTI last week. And of course the antibiotics gave me a yeast infection. 25 weeks pregnant and my OB wrote me a prescription for Diflucan. Said Monistat is also OK - my choice. Less systemic absorption with Monistat but Diflucan is easier as it's a single dose.

What did you take if you had a yeast infection when pregnant, and did it clear up? Thanks!

I took a 1 day cream that my Doctor prescribed Gynazol I think was the name. For some odd reason the company up and stopped making it. So now the option is a 3 day cream Terconazole.

I've treated with diflucan and found it didn't completely eliminate the YI. Maybe I needed more than the 2 pills I was prescribed.

You should also be taking probiotics!!! Helps naturally keep your flora balanced. I would take it daily for the rest of your pregnancy!

Just got Monistat 3; hope it clears it up!

Tell me more about probiotics - how do you take these?

funny you should post this...

I'm 11 weeks preggers and just completed a week of antibiotics for a UTI and I'm not due to go back to the doctor until Monday but I need to do SOMETHING for this YI...maybe I'll just grab some Monistat...I wasn't to excited about the idea of being prescribed diflucan...

My OB said Monistat 3 or 7 was fine.

I used Monistat. I can ask my specialist again but I thiink I remember he said NOT to use Diflucan as it could possibly be harmful. Not positive but I would stick with Monistat, just in case.

Monistat worked like a charm.

Monistat type. Worked just fine and suited my conservative leanings on meds.

the over the counter monistat didn't help me at all.

Probiotics. Go to Whole foods or any health food store. Buy a brand like Udo's choice or Jarrow or Natren. I buy these

I had one at the beginning of my pregnancy at about 10 weeks and she said Monistat wasn't recommended as much as it use to be but maybe she had me take something else because I just had 2 m/c. I used Monistat during my last pregnancy but this time she had me us Terconazole cream for 7 days. It was expensive but it worked. So of course I have another YI throughout this pregnancy or just some discomfort and would put off treating thinking it would go away because some days were bad others were fine and doc said no harm if I didn't want to treat right away. I finally did get another prescription but again she said no to Monistat. So I took the same thing again.

Ugh, the darn yeast infection hasn't gone away despite the Monistat.

So for anyone else pregnant and trying to treat a y.i., please note: don't do Monistat 3! The (male) OB who suggested I take Monistat 3 or Diflucan was contradicted by the advice nurse today who says they really don't want pg women taking Diflucan (too strong), that they always recommend clotrimazole over Monistat/nystatin for pregnant women, and that they always recommend a 7 day course over 3, esp. when pg. Um, this is the same practice that gave me the opposite advice on Monday! I wish I'd have skipped the doc with all the diplomas and gone straight to the nice advice nurse in the first place. She also recommended probiotics (like Tondi G), something the doc would never have done!
