So I want to get dh a waffle maker for Valentine's Day per his request. I have been looking and am not sure what I need. Should I get a swivel one? Or non-swivel? If you make waffles, please help. :) TIA

Waring Pro! My husband has Waring Pro WMK300 and loves it. It is one of his favorite toys. Waffles are nice and thick, and there are plenty of recipes. Costco sells a version for 59.99, but I see many types are on sale now at Amazon at pretty good deals.

I can't remember the brand of mine, but I love the swivel ones! Definitely go that route. I think I got mine at Target.

We have the large 4 square All Clad one. I got it for Christmas and love it. I would have never imagined I would use it this much. It is fantastic. The waffles are thick and crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy tender on the inside. We can all eat at the same time without having cold waffles because it makes 4 nice sized ones.

It is on sale now at ws plus it has a ws gift card offer.

I've been waiting for that WS one to get cheap! But $200 is still more than it was back at Christmas. I'm still kicking myself for not going for it.

My advice is to NOT buy a cheap waffle maker - I got a bottom-of-the-line one as a gift & it made soggy, dense waffles that took 10 minutes each to cook (I think the brand was Toastmaster).

If I was going to buy a mid-range one today, the brand I consistently hear great things about for wafflemakers is VillaWare.

I used that All Clad one at a friend's vacation home. LOVE IT!!! I want it soooooo badly. Besides the waffles being big and cooked perfectly, the fact that it is stored on its side is just too cool. Wish we had the funds for it right now.

Learn from my mistake. I bought a cheap one, this one...
http://www.cuisinart.com/products/waffle_makers/wmr-ca.html

the lever that you use to select the heat has already broken off after a few uses. Other than that it works fine for my needs, but I do love the deep pockets other waffle makers provide--this one is a little on the shallow side--like eggos.

This is the one I have also. It's my favorite thing that I got from my wedding registry. Knocks all other gifts out of the water. We use it at least a few times a month.

My DH is a waffle MANIAC (seriously, I think he would live on waffles if he could). He recently bought the Waring pro from Costco (the swivel type) and he says his search for the perfect waffle maker is over. I have to admit, it makes mighty tasty waffles. But he's never tried the All Clad and at that price I'm certainly not going to show it to him!

We've been very happy with our Presto Flip Belgian Waffle Maker, and, depending on your budget, it's a bit cheaper than some of the others mentioned (around $35-$40).

Me too. I didn't think I'd buy more stuff at W&S. But ended up buying an ice cream maker, chocolate fondue pot and christmas bark. Oh well.... I lived without one so maybe I'll wait for a sale this coming Christmas.

Another cheapo recommendation here: My mom has had this one for 15 years and it is still working fine. It makes fluffy deep waffles with the right recipe. She bought me the same one last year and it is perfect for our tiny kitchen. We don't make waffles enough to spend $$$ on one, maybe 2x a month.

I had the cuisinart one mentioned by a PP and it was great for awhile and then the waffles started sticking and pulling apart. I bought the swivel one from Costco and LOVE it!

I got DH the WS all-clad classic round waffle maker for Christmas and he (we) love it!

We have had a Krups for 5 years now. Use it about 2x per month, and it is great. It is the style that makes 4 at a time. When it was just DH, I thought it was too big, and wished for the ones that make individual round ones. With the family, I am :yay: that we can get 4 off at once. They are nice and thick, and they freeze well. I use a combo of microwave and light toasting to "refresh" them' almost cannot tell the difference.

And when you are ready to try something other than the straightforward, albeit delicious plain waffle, go here. http://www.waffleizer.com/

OH! thanks so much for that link. We've been branching out of our usual buttermilk recipe lately and I was looking for something new to try. I have a 15 year old villaware round belgium style that works terrific, but - I dream about the day I can make 4 waffles at once. My kids are eating faster than I can turn those babies out.

Thanks for all the insight! I can't do the Allclad one (too much $$$), but it is gorgeous!!! I am torn between the Krups (makes 4, so perfect for the family), the Costco swivel one, or the Villaware Uno. I love the thought of making 4 square ones at a time since it would help in cranking them out for hungry kiddos. Any thoughts on those 3?

We have this one.

Not too much $ and the plates flip over so you can have a sandwich grill, or leave it open for a 2 sided griddle. It's nonstick, makes good waffles.

Oh that is cool!!! I was watching some infomercial this morning and the product did that. Looks handy at least! Has it held up well?

natness

It has held up well. The nonstick surface took some getting used to (you need to oil it with nonstick spray or a brush/vegetable oil for the first waffle which can be sort of greasy, but not subsequent waffles.) The outside of the wafflemaker gets really hot. There is a bit of a learning curve with how much batter, but I think that would be the same with any wafflemaker. We've had it for 4 years, waffle a couple times a month, have used it for hash browns and sandwiches, no complaints!

Hmmm. I spent some time reading recent reviews on Amazon for this-- people are unhappy. Maybe they changed the design? I don't have any of the problems the recent reviews have, but I wouldn't have bought it based on the recent problems. Maybe buy this from some place with a decent return policy if you want to give it a whirl. Don't want to give bad advice!

We have a Villaware Uno one from WS (bought a few years ago) that does waffle strips. The waffles turn out great! That said, the $200 waffle maker posted above looks REALLY nice!

If it doesn't gross you out, check your Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Yesterday, I bought a near perfect 4 square Villaware Classic for $10. You can plug them in to test them before purchasing.

ETA: Oops, I forgot that you said you wanted to buy this for a Valentine's Day present. Maybe not a used one, then!

That is a thought. I could get one used and then get something else for a gift. ;)

I have this one http://www.buy.com/prod/cuisinart-waf-4b-4-slice-belgian-waffle-iron-brushed-stainless/q/loc/66357/203197455.html and think its great (its the only one I've ever had so I can't compare it to any others). It always cooks my waffles perfectly. BTW I saw these waffles on a "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" and found a recipe online. They are soooooo good. My new favorite waffles. http://www.waffle-recipe.com/recipes/liege-waffle-recipe/

Oooh, thanks for the recipe. I have been using the Bisquick recipe, all the while knowing that I am missing out.

How is the return policy at WS? If I get one from Costco, I know if it breaks it can be returned. Is WS pretty good too? I am figuring if I get the Villaware one from WS it is about the same price as the one from Costco. Since I did not get out to Costco in the storm, I better go ahead and order one from someplace. :)

You can get it at Ikea or swedish speciality shops. When I'm at Ikea I buy lots of it because I use it in swedish tea ring
