DS is 12 months and not 20 lbs yet so he will be RF for a while in terms of weight (and height for that matter - he's a small baby). It is getting hard to buckle him into his Keyfit30 and someone suggested moving him to a convertible since they can still RF. We drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Jeep Wrangler (but rarely the wrangler). How do I go about choosing the right brand and the right seat?? I have heard gret things about Britax. My SIL was in an accident and her car flipped and her baby was not hurt in the britax (he was FF at the time). Suggestions? I'm leaving price out of it for the moment.....

There are many great convertible seats - not just Britax ones. Since your baby is only 12 months, you want to rearface him as long as possible. Rear facing is 5 times safer than front facing for a kiddo that age. if you want to rear face as long as possible, there are now car seats that rear face to 40 and 45 pounds. Britax seats rear face to 35 pounds. Some great choices:

Radian XTSL (RFs to 45 pounds)
Radian 80SL (RFs to 45 pounds)
Radian 65SL (RFs to 40 pounds)
Graco MyRide (RFs to 40 pounds)
Complete Air (RFs to 40 pounds)
Britax Boulevard (RFs to 35 pounds)
Britax Roundabout 50 (RFs to 35 pounds)
Britax Marathon (RFs to 35 pounds)
First Years TrueFit (RFs to 35 pounds)
