I always hear that past generations had children earlier than our generation. Was this true for you? What was the age that you and your mom gave birth to the first child?

Mom - 20
Me - 28

We were both 25.

In both of our cases, it took a bit of time to get pregnant, so that may be why.

I also believe my maternal grandmother was 25.

We're weird that way! :)

My mom was just a few months shy of her 25th birthday. I'm 34. In both cases, we'll have been married three years.

She had her BA and minimal work experience.

I have my Masters and 10 years of a career under my belt. Our lives are totally different.

Me - 2 months shy of 37.

But, since I've moved out here, I've met tons of people with 3+ kids and they look like they are in their 20s. I've also met people who are only a few (as in 5 or less) years older than me who have grandkids!

Yep, definitely later for me, but I didn't meet DH until after college and worked for quite a while before having DD (I wanted to wait to have kids until we could afford me being a SAHM, then it took longer than expected to get pg). I'm totally fine with how it's working out so far, just have a shorter timeline for having kids than my mom had. :)

DH and I got married sooner than we might have otherwise because we needed him to be able to get a greencard.

It scares me how close our stories are. She met my DF and got married at 22, then they spent 10 years working and traveling before having kids. I met my husband at 22 (although we didn't get married until we were 28 - I'm less decisive I guess :p), then worked and traveled before having kids.

Age when had first child:

Grandma on dad's side: 27
Grandma on mom's side: 33

Mom: 23

Me: 37

The weird/scary/OMG thing to me is that when my mom was 45, I was graduating college. I am 45 this year and DD (DC #2) will be starting kindergarten.

There is no way I could have been married before 30, let alone have kids. But being married at 33 and starting kids by 35 would have been nice. It just wasn't in the cards. There are lots and lots of things I like about being an older mom. The things I don't like: my body isn't bouncing back like it could have 10-20 years earlier, I had high risk pregnancies, and I will have to concentrate on raising DC with really great self esteem so they pick good partners early and have kids by the time they are 30--Or I won't be around to meet my grandchildren!

I actually had my kids pretty close to the age my mom had hers.

She had her first(my brother) at 27 and me at 31, but between me and my brother she had a couple miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy so I think 31 was on the late end of what she wanted.

I had always thought I'd be at least 30 when I had my first but I was diagnosed with MS when I was 26 and my DH really wanted to start trying so we did.

I had my first 2 weeks after I turned 28 and my second 2 weeks before I turned 30.

I knew I didn't want to have kids quite that early, but it was awesome growing up with younger parents/aunts/uncles. Seriously.. so much fun. I knew I wanted something like that for my kids, which is why we didn't wait too long to start our family.
