I broke the rules and gave whole egg at 6.5m. I think we have gotten too strict with these things. No family history of allergies so I just watched for a reaction.

Yolk is easier to digest. I did the whole egg.

be a little careful if you have any history of allergies in the fam. I gave ds egg at 11.5 months and we ended up at the allergist:shake:

The white (albumen) is more likely to cause an allergic reaction. The yolk is full of nutrients and protein.

So the common advice is to start with the yolk only. Honestly, though, who can really separate the white completely? If there's going to be an allergy, I don't think giving only the yolk is going to make that much of a difference.

I didn't even hear about egg problems until after I'd given DD eggs (somewhere around 9-10 mo.) Oops. But, we don't have any history of allergies, and she was fine.

I give it together.

:yeahthat: We didn't know about the egg thing with M until our Ped told us. We have TT a hardboiled egg at 10m. He only ate the yolk.

I gave DS scrambled eggs with both yolk/egg whites when he turned 1. I heard the yolk is less allergenic than the whites.

The yolk is less allergenic than the white, but like pp said, you really can't separate them completely. So, if you have a child who is allergic to egg whites only, you still can't give them egg yolk. But, I imagine that when you're introducing, it would still make sense to start with the yolk.

we just got back from the allergist and I asked him about this again. He said that a higher percentage of people who have egg allergies are allergic to the white part, BUT people can also have allergies to the yolk and if they do it is usually a stronger/more serious allergy.

just passing the info along:)
