A friend's DD is turning 2 shortly. I'd like to get something special, but have no idea what my options are. (It's been a very long time since I looked for any presents for that age range!) Anyone have any recommendations in the $20-30 range?

DD just turned 2- here are some fun things-

puzzles (Melissa and Doug ones are great!)
Latch puzzle (also M&D)
Melissa and Doug cutting wood play food- we got the fruits and veggies for Christmas from the godparents and now the cookie set- very fun and great for make believe play!

Books- you can always get a gift card or ask parents for some suggestions!

Some recent additions to our library:

Ladybug girl (dd's birthday theme was ladybugs :rotflmao:)
Llama Llama red pajama
We found a cute multi-story book at Costco, by Jamie Lee Curtis (I forget the title, but they are great and colorful illustrations!)
If LO has a favorite character, like Elmo or Dora, a DVD might be appropriate, if parents are open to that!

Wedgits? M&D cutting food or slice and bake cookies are nice. Green Toys tea set, stomp rocket Jr, twilight turtle or ladybug (my 4 yo loves it).

How about this Trumpette Howdy cow? It's like a Rody Horse, but cheaper and CUTE! It's $34.99 but no shipping or tax.

I second the Wedgits idea!

My sons' favorite 2nd birthday gift (that is still used) is his traavel Magnadoodle. (The big one is way too big and the tiny one is too small but there's one that is just the right side that is usually sold as travel)

DD loves M&D puzzles, play food, baby stroller/shopping cart (usu. in 15-25$ range).

She also loves stickers and scribbling, so an art basket could be cute/inexpensive.

DD turned two last month, and we gave her a little cleaning set with a broom, mop, bucket, and a few other things. Since she loves to "help" Mommy, she has a lot of fun with these, and it keeps her from trying to grab the real broom when I'm sweeping.

She also loves her baby doll set (stroller, bed, high chair). Many are 3+, but there are some that say 2+.

Animals seem to be popular at this age. She loves making animal sounds and has fun with her barn set and her animal hand puppets.

Some of our favorite things at that age: Doll stroller, shopping cart, tea set, play food, toy purse, bilibo, MagnaDoodle, alphabet puzzle.

My 2.5 yr old loves stickers, anything crayola color wonder (especially the finger paints), and her baby doll diaper bag set (from this etsy seller: http://www.etsy.com/shop/BabyBlissMH).

My DD turns two in April and the things I have or are going to tell people if they ask for ideas:

Green Toys Tea Seat

Dress up clothes (she put on the princess shoes at a friend's house and wouldn't take them off!)

Cleaning equipment (broom, vacuum, etc.)

Playskool ball popper (heard people either love it or hate it, both DCs loved it at a friend's house!)

Thanks for all of the ideas!

Oddly enough, I'm going with something completely different, but your posts made me think of it.

I'm going to give her a Panda Zoobie. http://zoobies.com/products/product?id=18

I don't know what toys she has and asking her mom would pretty much ruin any sort of surprise. An extra blanket/stuffed animal should be okay, though!

DD just had her birthday party on Saturday.........she got a Leap Frog guitar and Little Tikes piano that she has absolutely adored since I took them out of the package.
She also got a washable coloring book..........so when she colors with her washable crayons on it I can wipe the page off with a baby wipe.
She also got a Little People castle and has been playing with that nonstop too.

That sounds awesome! Where can I find that?

... You know the family better than I do. I know the last thing we need is an extra blanket/stuffed animal.

I know the last thing we need is an extra ____________.

Every family has its own item to fill in the blank. That's why gift receipts are a godsend!

Yep, I do! :) I think the Zoobie would be put to good use, whether it be at home or in the car.
