View Full Version : what do you wear when you don't want it obvious that you're 'showing'?

So I'm not very far along with DC#2, and I have some events coming up with former coworkers and family members. Problem is that I got morning sickness a lot earlier this time, and I'm also showing and uncomfortable enough in my stomach area to want/ need to wear maternity clothes. However, since I'm nowhere near 12 weeks yet, I don't think I should spill the beans yet (though my parents and one friend do know). Any suggestions for what I can wear (other than black :ROTFLMAO:) that would help conceal it for another month or so? I guess something with pattern on the top might be good to draw attention away from my stomach; are there certain styles of clothing that help minimize the stomach? I have a belly band but think it would put too much pressure on my stomach for it to be comfortable.

Thanks for your help!

There are some really cute tunic-style tops out right now--they're not so billowy as the empire waisted ones that make me look PG even though I'm not :), but they are cut away from the body a bit and are more hip length. One of those with a tank underneath would probably do the trick.

Hoodies. You can get some made out of nice material, like cashmere, if you need something dressy. Anthropologie and H&M regular also have some great hoodies and cardigans usually.

Zofran and Spanx. Only sort of kidding here. I didn't have much morning sickness with DD1, maybe 2-3 bouts? But with DD2 I was really nauseated early on. Zofran made all the difference, so since you are already feeling pukey I'd ask my doctor about it. Then the Spanx would do the trick for concealing the bump for a bit. (I also showed MUCH sooner and MUCH larger with DD2.)

Huge congrats, BTW! :yay:

I'd go with a top with ruching, either fro the bustline or from an empire waist -- they hide a big belly (I wear a lot of them to hide my mom belly LOL).

Congratulations! :yay:

How about those flyaway cardigans (I think thats what theyre called)? You know, those cardigans with long drapey sides that you can sort of wrap or let hang? i think that would disguise your tummy pretty well, and you may be able to wear it later in your prgnancy too- just with your belly sticking out :)

Here's one-

I saw some really pretty ones at Kohl's yesterday actually. They're everywhere now, so should be easy to find.

congrats!

try cardigans or jackets/blazers left open. your "bump" probably doesn't show much from the front yet (looking straight on) so hiding the sides (side silhouette) should work.

GL!

Sweaters and fleece tops were very minimizing ;)

I was part of the baggy top brigade. It fooled everyone...in a way. They just thought I was getting fat, and marveled that I just kept eating more and more! This was in LA, I'm lucky no one staged an intervention!

I also think a prominent or colorful necklace will draw the eye upward and maybe people won't focus elsewhere.

congrats!
