Tilted Uterus + IUD Insertion = YEEOUCH!!!!

Ok, so not exactly a bitch, and probably TMI, but I just thought I'd share how my day went :hysterical: It took about 20 minutes of ouchiness to get the darn thing in. My OB/Gyn ended up calling in a prescription for an an antibiotic because she was worried that she could have introduced bacteria into my uterus with all the adjusting and readjusting and poking and prodding. But at least it is done now. And I treated myself to a peppermint mocha afterwards. And our new entertainment center was finally delivered this afternoon after two weeks of snow delays. So I'm happy even though I'm crampy.

I had the same experience, except they had to clamp my cervix and call in another OB to help put it in. I was screaming and I had even taken ibuprofen before. Thank goodness it didn't hurt when I got it out.

I hope the cramping goes away soon!

I don't know if I should say this, but my dear friend had an IUD travel up her tilted uterus. Her insertion was similar to yours but she was never comfortable. Eventually they decided to remove it & it was a tremendous ordeal. I felt terrible because I practically convinced her to get it since I love mine so much.
I hope your ordeal is over and all goes well from here on.

OY! Hugs ladies. I've done the cervix clamp twice for fertility testing. Once was horrifying, once was not bad at all. Big hugs and a HUGE martini to you!!!!

Ouch!!

My cervix is apparently up by my head - my doctor said she could attempt to put an IUD in, but she didn't think she'd be able to get it in right. After hearing this, I'm glad I didn't have her try!

I did not put a lot of thought into the whole thing before I went if for mine. Once I got there, I was looking at the insertion tool and came to the reality- "CRAP! You have to go through my cervix!?!?!?!". I'm not an idot, I just had not thought about it. I'm kinda glad I didnt, it might have been real easy to not go in.
Oh, and no one mentioned the whole idea of ibuprofen until it was too late.

I love it now that it's there. But getting it there sucked!

Both my kids were born early because my cervix refused to stay closed. Yet six weeks after DD was born, that same cervix was clamped so tightly closed that the doctor simply could not insert the IUD. It was impossible.

Fortunately (or not, but that's a different issue) DH wanted to get snipped, and did.

My OB/gyn uses the clamp and is not very gentle in general. I have not had an IUD, but did years of infertility tx and it always hurt with him. However, the Infertility specialists could do it without any pain, or any cramps afterward. Plus the radiologist who had to insert a tube for testing also did it without pain.
So... it really depends on the doctor and how much practice they have, no matter what location or tightness of your cervix. I now know that the procedures don't have to hurt!
If you have to get it done again, ask around for recs from women who state it didn't hurt. Their docs may be much more practiced.

Mine is tilted and the IUD insertion was barely more uncomfortable than a pap. Just wanted to put that out so that anyone reading will know that a tilted uterus doesn't alway mean it is painful. Sorry yours was so bad... there seems to be a wide range of comfort with them.

Mine is tilted too and my insertion was painful. I was thrilled that removing it was pretty simple, one quick sharp pinch and it was out and done. SO happy to not have that thing in my body anymore!

Thanks for all the commiseration! :love5: I've never had a problem with this doctor being rough before, so I'm inclined to believe the problem was just the way I'm built.

I'm still a little crampy today, but nothing that Tylenol can't help with. DH has been talking about getting the big V done since before DD#2 arrived. She is now almost 1.5 years old, and he still hasn't started to investigate his options. I decided to take matters into my own hands, and the fact that Paragard doesn't use hormones was appealing. Hope it works after all this!

Ouch, sorry your experience was bad. I got my insert done a few months ago and the midwife DROPPED the IUD on the floor. Apparently it was a special order (Paragard). I had to sit stirrupped and clamped until they could locate another one somewhere in the building. :irked:
