Okay moms who remember where they were when they heard Kurt Cobain died. You have to scroll down to see the sacrilege that is Paul Anka covering "Smells Like Teen Spirit". There ought be a law.......

Wow, I don't even know where to start. So wrong, in so many ways...

I hope Kurt comes back and haunts Paul. That is just tragic.

I was afraid to watch Paul Anka, but I love the Flaming Lips, and their cover of Kylie Minogue's dance hit was cool.

Okay...I'll be the voice of dissent. As a near 40 yr old I very well remember Nirvana & will argue rock quickly spiraled downward after the "grunge" movement. I'm still a fan but....I *love* that version! I love the tongue & cheek approach (and I usually abhor remakes). I heard it several months ago (at a Pinkberry of all places) & went WTH? But, it quickly grew on me & tracked it down. BTW, Anka is a great songwriter in his own right. And...this is hilarious...Richard Cheese & his lounge renditions (some are pretty good :))

I think it's kind of funny. I first heard Smells Like Teen Spirit when I was overseas. Our French friends asked my American friend and I what they were singing and what it meant and we had no idea! It took us about 3 months to get the liner notes/lyrics from the states, and the ones we came up with in the meantime were completely different. So I think Paul Anka's is funny because it's very clear.

I remember Cobain's death -- mostly, I remember going to hear Douglas Coupland read a few weeks after Cobain's death, and he mentioned it as part of his talk -- but it was not really a defining moment for me.

I heard it on an NPR interview ages ago. I think it's great. It was definitely meant to be tongue in cheek.

Still processing. Not sure how I feel about it yet...

I only remember where I was when I heard about Cobain's passing because a chick next to me was like, "He shot himself in the head? How many times????"
