So, next month I turn 40. And I'm thinking about buying myself a pretty nice present to celebrate.

I like this bracelet: http://www.sundancecatalog.com/PRODUCT/49559.html What do you think?

What would you get?

Thanks,
Catherine

I think a gift to yourself for your 40th is a great idea! I can't wear sterling silver, so that particular bracelet wouldn't be for me, but get it if it's what you love. Happy birthday!

Thanks for the encouragement! Anyone have any other jewelry they'd consider getting?

Do you have the classics like diamond studs, a pearl strand necklace, etc? I have always wanted a tennis bracelet, but now I have no idea where I would wear it!

Can't wear earrings unfortuately. Several years ago my ears started getting red and swollen every time I put earrings in, regardless of the type of metal the post was made of. I finally gave up.

I don't have a single strand of pearls, but I don't think I'd really wear them much though they are lovely.

I think something on the casual side would be most used. I have a lot of necklaces. And I've wanted a big cuff bracelet a few times lately. . . . I did think about a jazzy cocktail ring for my right hand. But I have sort of funny, crooked fingers and my nails are usually somewhat dreadful so I'm not sure I really want to draw attention to my hands.

Thank you all. I poked around a bit on Etsy and found this: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37928337 that I also like. It's much simpler/plainer. Probably more wearable, but maybe also less unique?

I should maybe mention that I have really small wrists so the ability of an Etsy seller to adjust the size a bit might be good.

Any opinions?

Ooh, I looove that Etsy bracelet. You have a lot to celebrate, turning 40 and the arrival of a new baby. You totally deserve to treat yourself to something nice! I love the idea of getting ones' self a birthday present - that way you're never disappointed! I'm going to institute it as an annual tradition!

What a great idea! I'm right behind you (40 in July) and a new necklace would be nice! I'll start looking for something!

Both are pretty. I like the Etsy one a bit more b/c it is more my style but that is a totally personal choice.

Me? I'd take myself on a trip for my 40th, :)

I like both those bracelets! I think I would wear option #2 more....but option #1 is really lovely. Let us know what you decide.
I can't wear earrings either...and it has actually extended to other jewelry too. I'm not sure I would be able to wear those cuffs, but maybe my arm could take it!

Exactly. DH is hit and miss with gifts. He's gotten me some really great things, but often he has no ideas and I end up picking out something for myself anyway. So, for this year, I decided I was skipping the middle man. LOL.

I did a weekend to visit a friend in Vegas a couple of years ago and it was great! I told DH he was in charge of child care (whether that meant doing it himself or arranging it) and I went for 3 nights. This year we are hoping to adopt--an expectant mother has decided to place her child for adoption and has chosen us to parent. She's due in April so assuming she doesn't change her mind, I'll have a newborn to take care of. :-)

Oh, I was sad enough to have to give up my earrings. I'd be really unhappy if it extended to other jewelry too.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I'm still pondering and may poke around for other options as well. Mulling it over is part of the fun!

I like both bracelets, but would go with something that screams "special!"

If you're looking to spend that kind of money, why not get an idea of what you'd like and then go to a jewelry designer to make something *just* for you? IME, the costs are pretty similar.

Oh, and btw, congratulations on your new baby and your birthday! :cheerleader1:

Wonderful idea! I'm turning 30 this year and have told DH he's in charge of planning a birthday party for me with my friends.

I have to make sure my jewelry is solid gold or silver; I have a nickel sensitivity. Because of that, I haven't been able to wear a watch in years. Years. I would love to have a really nice watch to wear.

Hey crl, just came across this in another catalog. VERY similar (if not actually the same as) the Sundance bracelet, but for $80 less.

Cambria Cove $395
http://www.cambriacove.com/antigua-cuff-by-vsa-silver/p446/index.pro?method=search

Sundance $475
http://www.sundancecatalog.com/PRODUCT/49559.html

I think CC has a star in the middle, while Sund has a heart?

Either way, thought I would share!! :)

I really like the jewelry at novica.com. All the pieces are so unique and not particularly expensive. I tag things I like as favorites and then let my husband pick something for a gift from the wish list.

Here are a few cuff bracelets I like:

I think this one is modern and chic--

Here is another I like:
http://jewelry.novica.com/bracelets/cuff/favorites/pearl-cuff-bracelet-iridescent-loom/154547/

I like this one and it's similar in style to what you picked out. Actually, they have a lot of bracelets like the ones you showed.

Here is a cuff bracelet I have on my wishlist right now, but it is quite inexpensive:

Thank you! I've been looking around on and off. And thinking that maybe I should be looking for something gold. I really like silver, but I do have a silver cuff--smaller Native American one.

I really like this one from the Cambria Cove website: http://www.cambriacove.com/jewelry/jewelry/bracelets/gold-klimt-cuff-by-alexis-bittar/14c15c16p1257/index.pro

I also found this on Nordstrom. I like that it has both gold and silver, but it may be a bit too. . . . umm, slick? in style. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3081702/0~2376779~6008000~6024156~6024231~6024992?mediumth umbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6024992&P=1

And there's this from Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19886430

They are rather all over the place stylistically, aren't they? I like all of them. I wonder which is the most enduring? I'd really like for this piece of jewelry to be something I'd still wear 40 years from now.

I have to tell you I was just oogling the Cambria Cove one, wishing it were silver! (I don't wear much gold.)

But I REALLY like the etsy one - with all the diff color beads, you could wear it all the time with anything!

It's a tough choice - you have some great options!
