View Full Version : Underwear help...for me!

I am completely frustrated with the Victoria's Secret underwear that I just bought. I used to like the basic bikini ones, but they seem to have changed the cut of all of their styles. And...I'm annoyed that I bought 5 pairs to get the "deal" (which isn't a deal if the underwear is uncomfortable!)

So...any recommendations? Jockey? Bali? I don't need anything sexy...but would prefer that it not come up to my belly button :)

I'm a Hanes girl, myself.....$6 for $6! They don't ride up at all! And they stay waaaay below my belly button. Oh, and I can get them at Target!!!

I have some from Costco, 100% cotton per my midwife's recommendation, that are super comfy but not too matronly.

I love the ultra low rise girl short undies from Gap Body. I started wearing them after having DS since I couldn't take wearing thongs anymore. I don't like my panty lines to be seen through pants and these work just as well as thongs.

I have found I really like Gap Body as well. I'm not sure which particular styles I have but they are really comfy and have held up way better than vs undies!

Yeah I find them strange!

For bikinis I have been happy with Vera Wang's line from Kohls (however they do run a little small so you have to size up; not listed on their webpage, but I'd look in the store) and Felina panties (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2973504/0~2376776~2374325~2385395?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=2385395&P=1) from Nordstroms.

I also recently bought some thongs by this brand and have been really happy with them; I haven't tried the panties yet though. I did have to size up in the thongs too as they looked a little small. Also at Nordstrom always look on the sale rack.

I really liked the Soma ones but they wore out in less than a year. I was really surprised by that.

Jockey Ascend, at Lord and Taylor and Nordstrom, newer style, nice cotton. Very nice bikini, like the old Victoria Secret.

The VS mid-rise brief fits more like the old bikini. Hits below the belly button with a fuller coverage back side but not as low cut a leg hole as the hipster.

I too stopped buying VS a few years back due to all the changes. I tried to like the Hanes from walmart/target and hate them as well. They don't wear nicely at all.

I just bought some CK at Costco but haven't tried them yet. $10 for a 4 pack.

I might try the aerie from links above and the gap ones. I like basic black or tan.

And those jockey ones that pp linked-what is up with that? It's like the style is trying to prevent camel-toe.......

I used to wear bikini cuts from the Jockey "elance" line ... I need smooth seams around the leg openings (no lace, scallops or other embellishments) or else I get wicked irritation.

The closest thing to that I've found since is the Hanes tagless hipster in the 3-packs I can get at Target. I don't like the bikini ones as well and low-rise panties don't cover my butt well enough.

Heck, I just bought 6 pair to pack in my hospital bag (3 pair hipsters; 3 pair high cuts) so if I got irritated by the hospital undies, I would have my own stuff with me, nurses be damned!

Liz--you'll be happy you did that! Just having on your own undies (even with a big huge pad) makes you feel so much more human! Be sure you pack some jammies too. Being in your own clothes really helps!

Any aerie coupon codes? I'd love to try them out and the 5 for $25 deal looks good but I'd rather not pay shipping. Do they ever go any less.

Also-looks like in the size chart, I'd be a M but do you find you have to size up for shrinkage? TIA

I don't know about the Aerie sizing, but until you know if they fit you/you like them, I recommend just buying 1 pair (even though it is more expensive). I bought five VS pairs for $25 instead of one for $9...and now I have five pairs of underwear that I can't stand...and $25 down the drain!

ETA: I just got some Gap ones to try. Thanks for the recs everyone!

Love, love, love the Gap Ultra Low Teeny Bikini. It is not too low, it covers everything in the back, but stays below the waistband of my pants. They are really comfy, and I have ones that are 3-4 years old and still in decent shape. They go on sale a lot, and I stock up then.

OK, I have to say I did a double-take at first coz I always assumed you were a dad! (the username tripped me up) I was wondering if this was a boxer/briefs discussion! :D

I am with you - I am so frustrated by both the cut and the new fabric/poor quality of the VS bikinis these days. They used to be thicker 100% cotton and now they're much lower quality and no longer all cotton. I think we should write to them to complain - I know there are many of us frustrated by the change.

No suggestions, but let us know if you find a good substitute!

Oh believe me, I am trying everything to make myself more comfortable while I'm in the hospital. I have a new pair of jammies & a nightshirt already washed & packed in the hospital bag with my new slippers, 6 pair of undies, toiletries, spare pair of contacts, nipple cream and gel breast pads.

I've even got my own pads. (This is because I am super-finicky about those and think I would prefer my usual brand to whatever the hospital might have.)

I have been wearing the ones from Costco since high school. I'm totally serious. :ROTFLMAO:They are called It-se-bit-se and are 100% cotton. I even sized up when I was pregnant and was able to wear them the whole pregnancy. They are the most comfortable, and 5 for $9.99 cannot be beat. I've tried others and always go back to them. I hate VS too. I even turned my mom on to them after she lost her weight.

I buy the VS low rise bikinis. I had to get rid of all of my old VS bikinis b/c they are way too high for the low rise pants which seem to be here to stay. I also wear the hiphuggers. I bought mine a long time ago and they hold up really well. I'm not sure if they still sell the regular cotton low rise bikinis but they do have some in the pink line.

Why can't you exchange the panties you haven't worn yet?

Sorry Twin Mom, but they discontinued the low-rise bikinis a few months ago! This is what I was referring to in my disappointment about the changes at VS. No more low-rise bikinis, no more all-cotton, all tagless, and thin fabric. Yuck. They claim the hipguggers are like the low rise, but that spandex sticking to your skin ain't exactly comfy.
