BJCM safety strap

Ok, one of the safety straps just will not attach to the stroller. It is too short! Maybe I need to get DH to stretch it or something. Are the safety straps really necessary? If the only way for the BJCM to fold is by pulling on the center strap, there is no way it would fold when DD is sitting in it, on the strap, right?

i never used those straps once in over a year. who needs another step in folding a stroller??!!
