The thread about the Mazda CX-0 got me thinking. A poster said that it got 16 mpg and that was terrible. While our 2006 Toyota Avalon sedan gets 18 mpg which is not much better. I am wondering if I am missing something. What does everyone consider good gas millage and what does everyone get for in town driving? I ask about in town only because 90% of my driving is on city streets and not the freeway or highway.

Thanks,

Jessica.

Around 25mpg for my 99 Civic. I do almost all my driving around town, lots of stop and go traffic.

Honda Pilot:
I get between 18-19 mpg., maybe 20. The last couple of weeks I have been filling up on Tuesday whether I drive a lot on the weekend or not in the city. My weekly driving is 95% highway, but there is also often traffic so it's more like driving in the city vs. true highway driving. I am happy with my 18/19 city. My mom gets somewhere between 17 and 18 in her Highlander and she puts in mid grade to get that; my car does exactly the same with either regular or mid grade (haven't tried premium).

01 Corolla: probably right around 25 mpg., although again more highway driving than city driving.

Ridgeline - 16-17 mpg
ES350 - 20-21 mpg

I'm kinda shocked the ES has such a big gap btw city and highway when the truck doesn't. When I had my Civic (and my Jeep for that matter), there wasn't much diff btw city and highway and I assumed that was the case for most cars.

My 2005 Subaru Outback H6 LLBean (has the bigger engine) gets about 18 MPG in town driving.

DH has a 2010 Toyota Prius and that gets about 47-57 depending on whether he has snow tires on it or not.

I consider 30MPG + to be good. I love my Subaru, and maybe would get another, except I would skip the larger engine/more horse power next time.

We average 25.33 in our 2005 Camry (380 miles usually between 15 gallon fill-ups). I don't know what in-city only is as we do mixed driving. Most of our 380 miles is in city but there is some highway. We are hyper vigilant about tire pressure and, now, keeping crap out of the trunk. It makes a difference. We don't drive super fast either. On the freeway on car trips we can get a little better than 30MPG. When we are just driving on the freeway, we can go well over 500 miles between fill-ups but I usually end up putting in 16-17 gallons vs. 15.

Most cars have a big gap. Starting and stopping is really fuel inefficient, mostly due to the waiting with the gas on at long lights etc.

12-14 on my wifes Sienna

And therein lies the reason I am so glad we dodged the minivan bullet.

Well, doing the math makes my brain hurt (fill up in litres, odometer is in kilometers, all manufacturers specs are in l/100km).

My Ody is getting around 17mpg combined city/hwy. I have the EX-L "eco" engine.

DH's 2010 Prius has been getting 50 on trips. Don't know what he gets driving to and from work.

My 03 Nissan Murano gets about 20 21 with my local driving and a little more on long road trips.

03 Nissan Maxima - about 20-21 in town. But it only takes Premium. :( I hate that part, but as much extra $$ as that costs, it still wouldn't be worth it to get rid of it.

My Jetta TDI gets about 30 in the city. By contrast, my van got about 18.

44-52 mpg (2010 Prius). Tire inflation, cold engine seem to be the biggest things that affect my mileage!

23 - my Malibu Maxx (automatic)
25 - DH's MazdaSpeed3 (turbo but manual)

I saw a commercial for some truck recently where it said "You go 300 miles without having to refill the tank!" But they meant it has a big tank, as opposed to good mileage, which is kinda cheating - costs the same, stop less often, but pay a small fortune each time.

My worst ever was a dying Ford Probe which got 8-9 mpg for months & months before I gave up on it.

I have an '03 Ford Windstar that gets, at best, about 16 mpg city. On long trips with highway driving, it gets closer to 20mpg, if I remember correctly.

My big Chevy Impala (I think it was a 2000) used to get 26+ mpg in the city. I miss that....but I love the space (and height) of my minivan.
