I've dropped a few sizes recently and I don't have a lot in my closet that fits well. I'm happy to replace some things but I've got some really nice pieces I'd like to keep. How much can pants and skirts be altered before they look goofy or becomes too expensive to be worth it? Any experience with this?

I've had the waist taken in on a bunch of skirts and pants, most by just a size, but some by almost 2 sizes. For those, the tailor also had to take in some at the thigh. I thought it was well worth the money. I got charged between $12-$24 depending on the tailor and how much was taken in. One tailor did an absolutely stellar job, the other was just okay. Be sure to ask them to keep the size and brand tags on your clothes. I thought that was a given, so I was quite surprised to pick up my clothes from a less expensive tailor and find the tags missing from the pants where they took in quite a bit at the waist.
