I know that many of you would suggest skip it and go for a twin bed instead or put a mattress on the floor. We are in a tight space apartment and will not be able to squeeze another twin bed in the bedroom. Putting mattress on the floor is not very convenient for us.

I came across this brand, P'kolino and wonder whether anyone has experience with it. Any other brand you would suggest? I hope to get one with solid wood and nontoxic paint. I like the Oeuf one but it is too expensive. Thanks so much.

I've been very happy with our Ikea toddler bed that expands to a twin.

I looked at the P'kolino - I think it's very cute - but we ultimately went with this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Z3BGQO/ref=s9_simh_gw_p75_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0V0RYYKJ7K8ASXM9RZX5&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

It's wood, very solid and DD *loves* the little bench. DH sits comfortably on it when he puts her to bed - he's 180ish. (I haven't tried, being 6 months pregnant makes me not want to sit that low!) We paid around $130 shipped from Amazon.

I decided against the P'kolino because I wanted bed rails near the head of the bed, and because it only converts to the chair using tools - can't easily go back from bed to chair like, say, a futon. And it cost a bit more. But I think it's still a great choice, especially if it fits your decor.
