Organizing my receipts and ran across the slip for my HP laptop that I bought in 2008...$750. OMG...Best Buy has a computer with almost the exact SAME SPECS for $329 right now. It's a Compaq but you know what....Compaq is HP.

don't feel bad... back in '96 i paid $1500 for my 850MB 133MHz Dell desktop with Windoze 95. LOL.

computers are getting so cheap now, whenever something breaks or goes wrong it's sometimes just better to run out and get a new one..insanity!

I'm honestly shocked at the $300 pricetag. Even $750 is a deal in my mind. I can't imagine a current laptop loaded with vista or 7, and Office 2007 lisitng for anything less than 4 figures. The retail price of Office alone would make this impossible. Unelss you're not including Office ... maybe. Where are you seeing this? I'm in the market for a Dell, myself, so I'm interested, here.

Keep in mind that pre-installed, OEM software is considerably cheaper than stand-alone retail packages. But still, $350 for a laptop is a great price!

To the OP, tbh I'm not at all surprised the price for that system has dropped significantly. Computers are all but obsolete after about 2 years as the technology grows at an exponential rate (see Moore's Law).

'Course that doesn't make you feel any better about paying $750 for your laptop, though does it :( ?

There are always decent sub-$400 laptop deals available these days.

OP, I feel your pain. Two years ago I paid $500 for a *netbook* :duh:

I paid $1600 for my first PC. Thing was SMALL in every way. Handed it down to my mom. A year or two later, it got zapped by lightening. She saw the receipt in the box and about keeled over. Man, what $1600 would buy today!! She got a nice replacement for about $600, and it was easily 10 times more computer.

Once you buy a computer or really any electronics, it's best to just hide the receipt and not look back. It's ALWAYS going to be depressing! We bought our basement flatscreen not too long ago, but streaming capabilities weren't a whisper then, now they are becoming standard! Crazy.

You know actually this (the Best Buy one) computer may be better than mine as it has Windows7 installed. No card reader but I almost never use mine anyway.

I'm not hearing "Office" here. And the 250gb hard drive is not going to leave much left after Office, so I that makes sense. I just kind of assumed Office, which is just wicked pricey. Gotcha, tho. Nice deals!

My $750 HP only came with a 60 day trial of Office. I still have it but it runs with limited functionality.

I downloaded Open Office (free) a couple of years ago and never looked back! Much easier to use than the 2007 Office update...

Don't feel bad ... if you want sticker shock, browse through an Apple store! ;)
