Buy a gift or not?

DS was invited to a classmates party however we could not attend as it was held on Easter Sunday. DS's kids party is this weekend. The kid has been invited. His parents have not officially RSVP'd but the kid has said to ds that he is coming. My question is should we be giving this child a present for his Birthday? If DS's party weren't the next weekend I probably wouldn't have just because it might be difficult to give the present to the child at school. Interested in other Mamas thoughts on this one.

I'd congratulate him on his birthday when he comes, but otherwise no way. Giving a gift to a guest = awkward.
