I saw this, and thought it was an April Fool's Joke. It's scary that it wasn't one.

Not funny, tragic, the man is ill. Seems someone with judgement this impaired should be relieved of duties, temporarily, until they regain health.

I saw that a week or so ago. That man needs to step down. He is just sad!

Here's an update at the end of the article:

Update: This article originally stated that The Atlanta Journal-Constitution article ran this Monday. In fact, it ran Monday, Dec. 7, 2009. Johnson's office informed me today that the congressman is finished with his treatments and—according to a March 12 press release—feels good, though he remains committed to raising awareness and funds for hep C prevention and treatment. We regret the error. You may now resume mocking his Guam comments.

Maybe he's got Hep C and despite that/in addition to that he's an idiot? Hard to say unless we have privy to his medical records, I guess.

I especially feel sorry for the military guys who have to sit before Congress and put up with questions like this for hours on end. I really admire their patience!

Spinning off a bit, the rest of the article about the prevalence and severity of Hep C is scary.

I hardly think anyone could attribute comments like this to Hep C.

Oh boy. My mom told me about this and I was really struggling to imagine that it wasn't an April Fool's joke. I want to laugh but all I feel is a strange sense of impending doom and PANIC that this person (among others) is in such a place of leadership in our country.
So, has anyone questioned that perhaps he should be relieved of his duties due to sheer stupidity or is that out of the question?

I'm not sure cluelessness is an impeachable offense.

This is sad. It's troublesome that a person who demonstrates incompetence is in office, but that's par for the course these days.

If his idiotic comments are due to his treatment for Hep C, maybe he shouldn't be working while undergoing those treatments. I mean, he's in a position of power that can/will affect our country. I mean, take a break buddy - because you're not doing any of us any favors like this!

They actually showed this at our Church on Sunday. Our pastor was giving us an example of why we need to be more conscientious of who we vote for. This is very sad.

:yeahthat: if the treatments are making you unable to fulfill your duties, and mental competence is a duty, then excuse yourself until you are better.
