My DD is having some itching issues so I'm changing detergent. Is there a way to get leftover detergent out of her Hanna panties? We have about 18 pairs and I hate to have to throw them away but I bought some Hanes and washed them in free and clear detergent and it seems to have improved the itching. Please help me save our Hanna panties!

Have you heard of Charlie's detergent? It rinses away really well, and it leaves nothing behind. I might try to wash them several times in Charlie's, and do an extra rinse cycle.

Put 1c of white vinegar in the rinse cycle. Don't use fabric sofener.

JT's mom,

I have not but that sounds like exactly what I need! Thanks for the recommendation.

I will try the vinegar today as I have tons of it in the house. Thanks, bubbaray!

MY DD has eczema and we switched to Charlie's Soap. I ran all of her clothes through a few times with the new soap. I did a couple of vinegar rinses and added baking soda to a couple of the wash cycles. I am not sure what worked, but it seemed to help. Good luck!

I would do what we in the cloth diapering world call "stripping" it (not as dirty as it sounds ;)). Do several plain water rinses or washes, without any detergent. This will pull out any residues. Many times you'll see soap film floating in the water. Keep rinsing till it's all gone. It may take several rinses/plain water washes. Warm/hot water works better, but if you're concerned about shrinkage, cold water will be fine too.

We normally set the washer on 2nd rinse so it goes through the rinse cycle 2x. That seems to do the trick for us.

I was reading an article on Yahoo last night about how it is the agitation not the detergent that cleans clothes mostly. It went on to talk about how we really don't need detergent at all to get clothes clean.

Interesting article. I read the article it linked to about people just using too much detergent. Even though we have a conventional/not HE washer, I started cutting my detergent amounts in 1/2 about a year ago, and our clothes, etc., are much better off.

Thanks so much, everyone. Glad to hear there's hope for our Hannas.
