I LOVE Newman's Southwest salads at Mcdonalds but can't find a dressing like that in the stores. Why must they torture me?

I remember looking for it after the first time I tasted it. I like having a spicy salad!

I have never had it. BUT, I like making a salsa vinaigrette, talk about low cal! You can add sour cream for creaminess!

When I want southwest dressing, I mix equal parts salsa and ranch. Yum.

I make a super-simple southwest dressing - just canola mayo and chipolte salsa, mixed together to taste. Must say that it's a real hit. DH will use bread to mop it out of the bottom of a bowl, lol.

You know whats crazy is that theres a place near my work that has a big cult following for their southwest salads and I swear its the unusual dressing choice that does it. Its an orange colored sweet peanut dressing - very asian. Man alive is it good!!!!!!!

I love this salad from Cooking Light. You can just make the dressing for your favorite salad if you like.

Black Bean Taco Salad with Lime Vinaigrette

¼ c. tomato, seeded and chopped
¼ c. cilantro, chopped
2 T. olive oil
1 T. cider or red wine vinegar
1 T. lime juice
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. ground cumin
¼ tsp. chili powder
¼ tsp. black pepper
1 clove garlic, peeled
8 c. lettuce, chopped
1 ½ c. cooked chicken breast, chopped
1 c. tomato, chopped
1 c. bell pepper, chopped
1 c. red onion, finely diced
½ c. cheddar cheese, shredded
1 can (15 oz.) black beans, rinsed & drained
Tortilla chips (optional)

To prepare vinaigrette, combine tomato, cilantro, olive oil, vinegar, lime juice, salt, cumin, chili powder, pepper and garlic in a blender or food processor. Process until smooth.

To prepare salad, combine remaining ingredients except tortilla chips in large bowl. Add vinaigrette and toss well to coat. Garnish with crushed tortilla chips, if desired.
