I'm concerned too. My uncle passed away 2 years ago (to the day yesterday!) at the age of 52 from the exact same type of brain hemorrhage. It's serious. This really hits home for me.

I'm not sure how you get a brain hemorrhage from appendicitis? Or is it just the risk of any kind of surgery? Just curious, doesn't matter.

I didn't watch his reality show and I don't watch Celebrity Apprentice but when I think of Bret Michaels, I do think of the celebrity is he now, even though I grew up in Poison's day. I may have had a tape of theirs. I actually caught a Poison video on VH1 Classic a few weeks ago and it was so...... well let's say it had not dated well. So good for him for having the charisma to get past that and reinvent himself.

I'm wondering if this is a complication that stemmed from the appendicitis, but keep in mind, he is a Type 1 diabetic and has been injecting insulin 4x/day his entire life -- since his teens, I want to say. He's not the picture of health, unfort, he drinks alot. My guess is that he's not a drug user. I've always liked him. I even realy love his bandana/hat look ... I just can't stand how that's his ONLY look. Cuz I'm nearly sure he's bald or thinning,a nd that's why he does it. I think he should just let it all out there for us to see, I like him anyway! Senidng P&PT to him, he clearly needs it.

He had that sign that fell on his head a few months back at some awards show. I wonder if this has anything to do with his current medical condition ... like it's been festering or something and just pops out now. IDK

I remember back in the day, I think it was in Canada or something that he was arrested for having so many hypodermic needles; they thought he was a junkie instead of a person with diabetes 1. He was released obviously, but I don't remember the outcome.

More info: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/booster_shots/2010/04/whether-you-call-it-a-brain-hemorrhage-or-stroke-here-are-some-facts.html

His hemorrhage is basically a rare type of stroke and his prognosis is at the 'no way to know' stage. Good Morning America said his chance of surviving more than 6 months is about 50/50. But he may make a full recovery.

I feel really bad for him & his family. It's always sad when anyone youngish (under 50) suffers a potentially fatal or life-altering medical setback like that. It could happen to anyone.

Really good pack. Best one I've seen so far. I get the faint feeling from this and the next pack in the list with Trump on ET that he just may be in the Finals. Not that that matters. But this is a good pack.

Bret Michaels' reps confirm that the rocker suffered a "setback" in his recovery from a brain hemorrhage -- and he may now be at risk for seizures.

According to Bret's people -- test results show Bret is experiencing hyponatremia, a side effect from the subarachnoid hemorrhage which is caused by a lack of sodium in the body. The condition can often lead to seizures.

But despite the setback, doctors are still hopeful Bret will gradually improve, "as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months."

Bret's reps also report that the rocker "remains under 24-hour observation in the ICU and is in positive spirits. He is responding well to tests and treatments."

Bret was first hospitalized for the hemorrhage last Thursday night after complaining of a massive headache.

Bret Michaels says he has "no doubt" he'll be able to return to the stage by next month ... this according to a source communicating with the singer.

We're told Michaels -- who suffered a brain hemorrhage last week -- is now speaking well and plans to hit the stage on May 26.

Our source says Michaels says he's excited about getting back to performing, which he says keeps him "sane."

Met him once, years ago, very nice man. Someone we know worked for Poison and had no bad things to say either.

I grew up a metal/rock fan and always liked Poison (most guy metalheads did NOT like them, I think it was b/c they stole all their chicks!).

I do wish though that with 2 little girls, he'd tone down the "Rock of Love" junk. They will see that hot mess one day. Not cool now, maybe 20 years ago.

My DH is now convinced the whole thing is fake based on how good Bret looked in his people magazine cover coma photo. He said, "people don't look like like that when they are in the hospital in a coma! They look pasty, pale and weak with tubes. Not tan and ripped with their bandana on. "
I told him that Bret's people just had his back and that he is probably bald like Fairy said awhile back. ;)
glad he is ok now so we can tease about such things. :)

Ya know, I can totally see how this could easily come off as a total hoax. But, I'll tell ya, I'd be devastated. And I don't think the hospital would agree to be a participant, as they released statements, and everything! But I see why folks would go there, I mean, he realy looked great in that photo! But yes, his people are fiercely loyal and had his back. And he is, clearly, phobic about being seen without his bandana, so there's no way he's going to release pix of himself au natural. I really do think he's either bald or has extensions on the hair he does have.

Did you see him rockin' his cold sore Sunday night? It's just stress! Are you sure it's not skank? Ok, nevermind. I love him anyway. I'm not sleeping with him -- he's not on my celebrity list, as I like to be fire-crotch-free -- but I love him!

I'm pretty sure Brett has admitted he has the "finest extensions Europe has to offer"...he knows we all know that isn't his real hair, but that doesn't mean he has to let us see him bald!

Now, there's something you might not want on the old medical chart. Rocker Bret Michaels tells Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/;kw=[13193,154745]) that he was watching cable TV porn when he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage in April.
"I was going back and forth from SportsCenter to Busty Cops 3," he admits. "Maybe that's what did it!"

:hysterical: Porn needs to have a disclaimer on it now.

I don't think it's fake at all. I don't remember reading anywhere that he was ever in a coma. He may have been unresponsive initially, but that does not meet the definition of a coma. I see patients at work on a regular basis who have had brain hemorrhages. If they were tan and ripped a week before, they still are. They don't necessarily look pale and pasty, even if they are in a coma. And, believe me, I've had patients who really were in a coma whose families did their hair, nails, etc and had them looking beautiful everyday. It's also quite obvious that Bret often wears makeup for his photos.

Once stabilized, they may not have any lines, not even an IV. The perception of a how someone might look after a brain hemorrhage may not always be accurate. I'm absolutely amazed sometimes at how well some of these people are doing a few days after being admitted to the hospital. They can be totally unresponsive and not following any commands, confused, etc then a few days later they are up walking around the halls.

I agree with a PP that the hospital would not be releasing statements about his condition if this was merely a publicity stunt. Especially now with this new event, I think he is not in the best health. His diabetes puts him at greater risk for these types of things and he, in all honesty, should take some time off to recover. His body has been through a lot and his brain is still healing. Now, he will likely have surgery and he just needs to accept that it's time to slow down. If anything, he's in denial if he thinks he can continue at his previous pace.
