View Full Version : Do you wash your kid's face with soap?

Growing up, I always just used water on my face until I got to high school or maybe even college. But DH says he's always used soap on his face for as long as he can remember. So I never use soap on the kid's face but DH does sometimes when he bathes them. Just wondering what you do with your kids?

We don't wash her face with soap on purpose......but we are washing her whole body, including her hair and then we rinse her off; so I'm sure some soap gets on her face.
The only time we really try to use some soap is if she's gotten really dirty :)

In the bath but we are a 2 bath/ week family for the kids. ;) I use water the rest of the time when their faces need to be wiped off. It seems to work fine so no good reason imo to use soap.

No not intentionally I wash their hair with shampoo but do not add soap to the wash cloth before wiping their face

:yeahthat: there is a bit of soap/shampoo in the water, but not directly on the washcloth.

I usually just wipe his face with a wet washcloth and only use soap if his face is really dirty/sticky. It's not worth the risk of getting soap in his eyes and it seems like it would dry out the skin.

I didn't when they were younger, but now that they are 4 and 5, I do. Just one time, at night. We use Cetaphil. Since I put sunscreen on their faces in the summer, I especially think I should be washing all that gunk of well at night.

After he eats I wipe him down with a wet washcloth, but at night when he gets ready for bed I dampen a cloth wipe with our castile soap/water/tea tree oil wipe solution and wipe his face and neck with that to get off any extra food, drool, etc.. so it doesn't sit there all night.

I was wondering about this too, especially since we use physical sun block. I don't use soap but started wondering if I should. Do you non-soapers use sunscreen on DCs regularly?

I used soap growing up. I was a pretty grimy tomboy though! I don't know if my mom used it on me as a baby.

Good question about the sunscreen. I usually just give their faces an extra wiping when they have sunscreen on. But maybe I should use a little bit of soap to get rid of the sunscreen?

I don't use soap.

I will wipe well with a washcloth and water to get sunscreen off.

Mostly when she's really sticky. like after a pb&J sandwich or a piece of chocolate where its smeared ALL over her face. but I use dove sensitive and use sparingly.

Another "no, not intentionally/only when rinsing off in the bath" vote here :)

No, we don't unless they have something very dirty or icky on their face that just won't come off with water.

On occasion in the bath with CB shampoo. Usually just a wet washcloth as needed.

Egads! I spelled "their" completely wrong! So embarrassing to have it quoted. Where was my brain when I typed "they're"? I really do know better!

we do put a physical sunblock on DD's face.........so I guess those are the days when we do use some soap on her face. We wash with CB or something similar, so it's pretty gentle.

I use Dove sensitive soap on all the DC every night and have since they were babies (not as newborns though).

Same here. All three have eczema (with flaming red sunburned looking cheeks) and their skin looks so much better since the pedi advised us to use it. I also use cetaphil when one of them gets marker all over the face-which at age 4, 3 and 1 happens at least a couple times a week.
