One of DD's 6 yr molars is coming in, she has been complaining about it for about 5 days now. I looked at it to see if it had broken through the skin yet and its partially out, there is still a lot of the gums still on top. How long do they normally take to fully break through the skin? Theres kind of a hole right now and she said food keeps getting stuck there and that makes it hurt more. Not sure if I should just wait it out and see if it gets better or call the dentist.

Not sure how long it takes, but at DS#1 dental appt in Jan, he didn't have any molars. And now 2 are fully in and 2 are half-way in. He didn't complain about it. It wouldn't hurt to give the dentist a call to see if she needs to be seen.

It didn't phase DS1 at all when he got his 6 year molars. I'd have the dentist take a peek at it - won't take him/her more than a couple of minutes, and you'll know for sure whether there is an issue in there or not.

DD's have taken ages to come in. The gums are still a bit over them in the very back and it's been a year I want to say , can't remember exactly, but her teeth seem to take ages to come in. Hope your DD feels better soon.

Thanks everyone, I'll call the dentist in the morning and just see what they say. I asked DD tonight if it still hurt and she said it hurt when she was eating or if she touched it with her tongue. So I think her gums are just tender to the touch at this point. It still has a ways to go before its fully through the gums though.
