A friend of mine is working with a company that is interested in hiring me to do a few hours of brainstorming about their marketing plan. They need to know my hourly rate.
I have been out of the workforce for 7+ years. Before that I worked full time for a University, and made between $35-40/hour, but as a salaried employee I had benefits, an office, paid vacation, etc. - so my hourly rate was actually quite a bit more. Since leaving my job, I got an MA in Marketing, so I have a fairly high level of education.
I have no idea how much to ask for. I don't want to lowball it, because this could turn into a regular gig and I want to be paid appropriately, but I am nervous about highballing it as well. Is $65/hour too much? This is not a start-up firm that's hard up for cash, it's a successful and well-established company (but it is small - 4 full time employees, I think.)
Thoughts?
