Our nanny is leaving after 5 years. She is going to nursing school in September. I am really stumped as to what to get her as a good-bye gift. I plan to get a picture taken of her with the kids and give that to her but I'd like to also give her something a bit more personal.

Gifts we've done for birthdays and other occasions in the past include; a Coach wristlet, GC for a mani-pedi, bracelet, GC for our local mall and a webcam for her computer.

She came from overseas to work for us. Her plan from the beginning was to work hard and find a new life and career for herself. She is about to get her Canadian citizenship, start nursing school and has a PT job at a nursing home that will likely become FT once she completes her degree. I feel like her life is really coming together and I am truly happy for her. Also, she has been living in our basement since she came here and will now be moving into her own place. I'd love to find a gift that would celebrate all that, but I have no ideas.

Got a price range in mind?

A GC to a home store to help set up her new place, or a box of kitchen utensils/dinnerware, something along those lines?

Oops, that would have been something important to note.
I'd like to keep it in the range of $50.

Our former sitter went off to nursing school, and I bought her a stethoscope for her and had her name engraved on it. I think I spent around $70.

I asked about it here:

Thanks for the link. That thread has some good ideas. I did a quick search online and littman stethoscopes here in Canada seem to start at over $100. Arrrgh!! She's leaving in 2 weeks, so no time to ship to the US and get it here by then. Maybe I will call the college she will be attending and see if there is anything they can suggest that she needs or maybe where to get a better price on the stethoscope.

When I was in medical school, we all were able to order stethoscopes through the school at a discount, but I think it was only at a certain time of year. Calling them is a good idea to see if you can do it, though.

When we moved and had to leave our nanny of 3 years, I made her a photo book on Shutterfly (or similar) of pics of her with the children. She absolutely loved it (also made a copy for the kids to have to flip through and remember all of those great times with her). Almost breaks my heart to look back through it!
