I know this was talked about on another thread recently, but I wanted to share that this is a very real phenomenon. I promise, I didn't use to be this way.

I went to take off my mascara last night and noticed that I had only put it on one eye that day. I had gotten distracted and forgotten to go back and do the other side. Nice!

The other day after school I was in the preschool parking lot doing the juggling act of holding DD2's backpack, holding my 2 year old on my hip and clicking the clicker to open my car. After *several* tries at click, tug the handle, click, tug the handle, I realized my car was actually parked a few rows over.

A few months back I had been running around all morning cooking breakfast, making lunches and getting the kids settled with DH so I could run my oldest to the elementary school. We got in my car and I turned the ignition, something felt funny. I looked down and I was still wearing an over mitt on my right hand. :ROTFLMAO:

Please tell me I'm not alone.... :hysterical:

I love the oven mitt one! :ROTFLMAO:

I think the worst recently is when I realized, after I got home from dropping DS off at preschool, that I didn't put on a bra that morning. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a big deal, but pregnant me has rather impressive tatas, so I'm pretty sure other people noticed. :p

I found my sunglasses in the fridge this morning, does that count?

Two days ago I got half way through my work day when I realized that I had two different flip flops on. Fortunately I make my own hours so I could go home and change them. I'm sure a few of the people I interviewed that day wondered about my competancy though :)

I can't tell you how many times I almost grab the diaper bag rather than my work bag - but one of these days it will happen...

As soon as I leave the room for something, or make it upstairs, I forget what it was I wanted.

I left my wallet on the counter at Build-A-Bear last week. Losing $$$ wasn't enough of a lesson, because I've almost left it on top of the car several times since then.

Words escape me now that I'm pg. They don't even make it to the tip of my tongue. All I can do is gesture wildly. "You know... Get me the thing! The thing we use to flip other things, the flipper thing." And my ability to spell correctly and use proper grammer is suffering (esp. in posts and emails).

Just after I found out we were expecting DC #2 (Decemberish), I heard a few news stories about a study that disproved "mom brain." Apparently we're all just a little too distracted and blaming it on hormones, etc. BS. Mom Brain may not ever be a legit diagnosis, but it's real.

Ha! It's real, I tell you!

During the course of 1 week:

(1) I applied hair gel to my face (oops, that's not moisturizer!)

(2) I planned all day to go to the library in the eve to pick up books I requested. I was totally looking forward to 45 min of "me" time. I drove the 15 min to the library only to discover they are closed on Tuesdays (and always have been) and even if they were open, Thursdays are their late night. I know the schedule, it just didn't process...

(3) I rushed and raced to DS1's soccer practice and thought I was running late, only to figure out when I got there that it started at 10:30 am vs. 10 am like I thought. So we had to sit on the field for 30 min until his group started.

Finally,
(4) I rushed home from work one afternoon, loaded the kids in the car to go to a bday party for a friend that's across a bridge currently under construction. Party started at 3:30, I got to the party place at 4 pm (bc of traffic) only to figure out (after another 10 min) that the party wasn't until the next week. Drove back over said bridge...total 2 hrs in car to travel what would take 30 min without traffic...to top it all off, the son who was invited wouldn't even be able to attend the real party the following week because he'd be in Disney World with his grandmother!

Bad week...and it's all because of mommy brain!

Towards the end of my pregnancy, my short term memory was so bad that in order to remember a short list of things I needed to do, I would repeat the list over and over until I was positive I had it down.

But despite all my best attempts at memorizing the list, all I could actually remember later was the number of items on the list. I had no idea what the items actually were. This happened on a daily basis :)

DH's short term memory isn't any better, so he was no help.

The single worst memory lapse I had was during my 2nd trimester. I was flying home from a business meeting and realized as I began placing items on the security scanner that I still had my suitcase with me as well as my 2 carry on bags. I had paid the checked baggage fee at the ticket counter but completely forgotten to leave my bag. Airport security had to escort me out of the security line so I could go back to the ticket counter and check my suitcase.

The worst part was that I was in line at security with two business colleagues who witnessed the whole thing. In fact, they were the ones who'd asked me to attend the meeting to give a scientific presentation to a group of important customers. Thankfully the presentation was already over and had gone well. Otherwise, I'm sure they would've had serious reservations about allowing me to present after witnessing the airport incident :)

I sent DD to the wrong swimming class. I thought that class was 30 minutes later than it really was (after having attending the class at the correct time for at least 2 months). I noticed that the instructor had an earlier class, which was very unusual, but I took DD in when the instructor signaled the start of class. I even saw the mom of one of DD's (real) classmates and noticed her daughter out by the pool and thought of asking if her daughter switched to a different class. Class was half over when I figured out my mistake AND the class was actually the next higher level. Oops.

The good news, though, is that they bumped DD up to the class I mistakenly sent her to b/c she was ready for the next level. They wouldn't have known if I hadn't sent her to the wrong class.

I don't think this counts as mommy brain, but I swear I'm so much clumsier than I used to be. I don't want to admit the number of bottles of vanilla extract or olive oil that I've dropped on my kitchen floor.
