my mom got bitty twins for my almost 4 and 2.5 yo. He was NOT enthralled and begged for a truck until she went to the store and brought one back. He kicked and tossed the little boy doll down the staircase every single time our backs were turned. He does play with the Bitty Baby DD has, though. Not sure why he feels so differently.

DS has this Tidoo Lutin from his second Christmas (he's now 4 1/2)

http://www.amazon.com/Corolle-Tidoo-Bright-Premier-Collection/dp/B001U0LJGS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1273682535&sr=8-1

He named it Kieffer after the only boy baby he knew and still sleeps with it at night. The girls play with him too and DS gets mad if he catches them.

Tidoo Poppy is also a sweet boy Corolle doll too; he's the first doll on the page when you scroll down. http://www.liveandlearn.com/corolle/tidoo.html

Thanks - I really like Poppy. Do the boy dolls look different than the girl dolls other than the clothes?

i don't think so jgenie-- we have a tidoo and she looks nearly IDENTICAL to poppy. and has "bright" clothes like lutin. i didn't see ours on liveandlearn (we've ordered a few times from them-- great customer service, good prices and even better if you don't live in MD and have to pay sales tax (we do :( )

we have the boy potty doll (it was on sale on amazon over christmas and i could resist for 15 dollars) by corolle. this might be a nice choice for your 2 year old ? apparently he's anatomically correct (i haven't checked that feature -- it's stashed)

the smaller tidoo or calin is more cuddly than potty doll "paul" but like i said in the other thread-- all the kids that come to our house (2 year olds) seem to like our female version of the corolle potty doll best. of course-- if your doll is going to get thrown (it happens) you might want the smaller/partially soft dolls!

We've always sworn by fabric dolls in my family!

My cousin Andrew has one of the Magic Cabin ones I linked in the other thread. (My aunt made it using the kit.)

They are cuddly and very cute. The boy dolls do look like boys, but no anatomical features as they're rag dolls.

FWIW, my brother Ger had a homemade "Cabbage Patch" doll (using a pattern licensed from Xavier Roberts no less!) and my brother Joe had a "My Child" doll when they were little. Truthfully, I'd love it if the "My Child" doll came back, but it's not likely.

oh lizzy--i LOVED my my child doll when i was little :) i only had one. i had a SLEW of cabbage patch kids (a dozen?).

i ordered lucy a waldorf doll and it should be here sometime in the next 6 months. it's a custom. i really think the waldorf dolls are very different from other soft dolls-- there is more "heft" to them. of course, they come in all sizes (like any doll) but we got a 15" and i've seen similar sized dolls in real life and they are hefty (think of a child carrying and loving-- it's different from what's hefty to an adult of course!). i think it will be more than adequate for my 3 year old. my friends older child has one (it might be 18") and its WAY too big for her (even though it's cloth...it's heavy and her mom told me she thinks it's a little overwhelming).

I wasn't a doll person when I was a kid, but I envied my brother his My Child doll. Those were the prettiest dolls on the planet.

The Waldorf-style dolls from MC are just so nice - Andrew loved his so very much - that I couldn't resist ordering on as a splurge gift for a friend's 1 y/o. I think I got the 12", but can't remember.

I, too searched for a boy baby doll for DS1 to prepare him for arrive of DS2. I looked at BRU and online, but didn't see any I liked that weren't way expensive. I ended up finding the perfect doll at my local TJ Maxx--an all-cotton (says it's organic) soft doll in a natural color with blue trim. No clothes/pieces to remove. Just soft and cuddly, less than 12" tall, perfect for a 2-year-old. Must have cost less than $10.

I'm a huge fan of Etsy, and you could always have one made to suit your tastes. For example: http://www.etsy.com/listing/46756080/custom-cloth-baby-girl-or-boy-doll-you?show_panel=true

Good luck with boy #2!

When DD was born we gave DS a Corrolle doll called baby Paul I believe. He really liked it and both he and DD still play with it.

DS got a Cabbage Patch preemie boy doll for his 2nd Christmas. He plays with it occasionally, but starting to pick it up more lately.

DS has 4 boy dolls, he got the 1st for his 1st birthday. He doesn't play with them tons, but will occasionally take one to bed with him or to daycare for toy day. He enjoys pushing "babies" around in strollers there (we don't have a toy stroller here) and he pretends to feed them and put them down for naps. But he's also big into stuffed animals and trucks. We don't let him sleep with the trucks :D

He has a Corolle Tidoo, a Calin, and a Paul. And he also has a Waldorf-style doll. Tidoo can go in the bathtub, which is why I bought him, but it freaked DS out so we haven't tried that again. You asked about differences between boy and girl dolls? Paul is anatomically correct ;) The rest are just all soft-bodied, with shorter haircuts and "boy" clothes. You can feed him water in his bottle and he'll pee into a diaper or potty - we bought him to help PT DS, but so far, we're still working on that one.

I will say that it's not easy to find clothes for boy dolls - unless you sew - and nearly all the accessories (highchair, strollers, carseat etc. ) are pink :barf: Which I would not want even if I did have a DD.

I just got a North American Bear Co. one for DS and I love it (he on the other hand isn't too interested in any kind of doll or stuffed animal.) It's all soft with sewn on features, plus the shirt and diaper come off. I'll use it more for "baby play" once our changing table and co-sleeper are set up.
Here is ours on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/North-American-Bear-Company-Cheeks/dp/B000G334Z4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1273865614&sr=8-3
