I'm going to get a bookcase. I am on the edge of buying a canvas/sling version similar to this one at OneStepAhead (http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=536401&cmSource=Search) or this one (http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-14226-Primary-Sling-Bookshelf/dp/B0018LUNJI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1274330321&sr=8-3). A friend of mine mentioned she has a wooden bookcase - all wood - maybe a cheaper/smaller version of this (http://www.amazon.com/GuideCraft-Book-Display-by-Guidecraft/dp/B0018ZOLTC/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1274330512&sr=1-10).

Is there a benefit of one type (wood/sling) over the other?

i have one similar to the first one, it's wooden one with canvas slings. i got it from walmart.com (tho it's not there anymore, here (http://www.amazon.com/Guidecraft-Safari-Book-Display/dp/B000FICDE8) is a link to a pic of amazon). i don't have all wooden-one to compare to, but all i can say is that i love mine. i guess i love it too bc it has the nice drawings on the sides (safari animals)...the stock pics don't do it justice, it looks better than that IRL.

i really like the OneStepAhead one (the first link u posted), i like how it has those storage bins underneath!

I think it depends on the age of your kids and how they'll use it. We have wooden bookshelves and I really want a canvas sling book shelf too. The wooden ones are nice for hardback books, but we've accumulated a ton of golden books and Scholastic paperbacks and those live in baskets so the kids can find them (they're preschool aged and will pull out every book looking for their favorite otherwise). I'd love to have a canvas book case so at least some of the paperbacks books can face out and have a permanent home.

I just bought the One Step Ahead one and it's sitting in the box in my living room! DS2's birthday is on Sunday and that's part of his gift since he LOVES his books (they're the only things he plays with). I went with the OSA one instead of the Kidcraft one because the Kidcraft one has shelves that are all the same depth and people said their smaller books couldn't even be seen. We have a bunch of smaller board books and I wanted DS2 to be able to see and reach them easily. The OSA one has shelves of different depths so I can put all the smaller books on the shallower shelves. I also like the bins that the OSA bookcase has and figured I could keep any extra books in them and rotate them with the ones on the shelves. Also, the Kidcraft one is smaller than the OSA one and some people complained about it being too small and it not being able to hold many books. Oh, and I liked that the OSA one comes in dark wood since our is going in our living room and we have all dark wood in there.
