... you shouldn't have. No really. I appreciate that you wanted to try to make my sister less mad at me for missing her wedding. However, I do not think telling her that she should thank me for not showing up because the baby would have stolen her spotlight was the way to go. I appreciate your attempt to help, but I think she's even more upset with me now. Perhaps you could ask her to return a book of mine she's had for 6 months now then, because I don't think she'll be taking my calls for awhile.

I don't know the details and guess that's a little tone deaf of your mother but it doesn't strike me as not THAT outrageous of a thing to say. I wouldn't be too hard on her for that. Sounds to me like your sister--is she the one having a wedding cruise?--might be pretty determined to be offended no matter what.
