Brain not working, help please

I am going to try and cut DH's hair tonight. I am reading the clipper instructions, but can't figure out if the higher or lower number blade makes the hair longer or shorter.

I want to start conservatively, so do I use an 8 or a 1? Help, I'm sure this should be easy but I can't get it straight in my brain.

When I get DS's hair cut at the hair cutters', they use a 6 on top (longer) and a 2 on the sides and back (shorter). Assuming it is consistent with all systems, the smaller numbers make the hair shorter. HTH.

Yup, a zero will get you a shaved head.

You can also just look at the spacing and length of the teeth on the blades. That's how I tell (*blush*).
