Any suggestions on what to get for gifts for old friends? Once a year, no matter where we are, we travel somewhere to get together. It's the time we exchange birthday gifts. Since we're all together usually we end up giving everyone the same thing/or variant of.
It's just for fun, and not expected by any means.
I'd like to get something cool that they might not buy themselves, but would be fun to enjoy. I'd like to keep in under $100 each, just so there's not increased need to reciprocate or "keep up with the Joneses" pattern. We're all at different stages of life, some married, some not, some with kids, some not. On the calendar we're early 40's, but IRL it feels like our 20's. Also all of us are well "closeted" science geeks. All like to cook and read as well.
Any suggestions?? When I find something superspecific for each one I usually just buy and send at the time, so it's ok this is a general gift and doesn't need to be super personal.
Ideally I'd like to introduce them to a product they'd love and never knew exisited, and maybe becomes thier new favorite gift to give... but that's asking alot. I thought about a Kindle, but they're just expensive enough to maybe make people uncomfortable, and easy to figure out the price. I don't mind spending that much, but don't want to make $ the focus. Also thought about getting FitFlops, but would have to find a subtle way to figure out sizes.
