Ds#2 will be one in about 2.5 weeks. We are using this as the theme:

There will be approximately 12 adults and three kids (two babies). I want to make a cute jungle themed cake. Well actually, I'd like to just buy a yummy one, but I'm having a hard time finding a cute one that looks like a 1st birthday. I'm willing to consider making one, but it has to be SUPER easy to decorate.

Any websites that you know of that have some good ideas I can copy?

You might try getting a "tube" of plastic animals from Michaels or something. They sell lots of different themes and you could frost the cake in something simple and then place the animals on the cake. There are plenty in there and may be some trees or other items included too.

Familyfun.com is always worth checking out.

Wilton.com has a discussion forum. Check out the "Life Celebrations" subforum and do a search for jungle. Its people posting cakes theyve made. Sometimes they are amateur cake decorators, but often they are professional.

There are some ADORABLE jungle cakes on Wilton- but all the jungle characters are molded from fondant. How about buyong some cute jungle figures and then putting them on a cake you've decorated?

I know you were asking for help with the design, but I think a jungle party has to have a banana cake.

as for the design, how about a large monkey face cake?

We had a zoo party when DS turned 3. My friend decorated the cupcakes as various animal faces (elephant, frog, lion, monkey). I copied the monkey and made it a larger cake for our family party. It was very, very easy. Round cake, chocolate frosting, a little bit of fondant, and black and red decorating gel. The ears were each 2/3 of a cupcake attached with toothpicks and frosted.

Here's the cupcake she made (I don't have a pic of the cake I made on this computer):

I am NOT very crafty/ creative so for Boo's 1st Birthday, which was also a jungle theme, I bought a cake at Costco (yummy and only$18!) and had them decorate it with just a green "hill" from their golf theme cake (they will let you give special instructions on cake decorations) and "Happy Birthday Boo" on the top. Then I used our Little People animals (I stuck a couple toothpicks in the hole in the bottom of each so they could stick into the cake without getting all goopy from the frosting) and stuck them in the cake around the "hill". It looked REALLY cute and I got lots of inqueries where I got such a cute cake!

You can easily make monkey cup cakes with nilla wafers cut in half and two little brown m&Ms for eyes. the cups in this picture kinda show the way the nilla wafer works

We had a Monkey themed 1st birthday party for DS2 and I ended up short on time so we got the cake from the super market and opted for the curious george topper... added a few trees to the top, a big number 1 candle, and it worked out perfectly.

Here is a cake decorating set with various jungle animals.... you could take them and a pic into a bakery or super market and ask them to create something for you!
