We're about to have our 1st child in the next week or so (due date is the 26th)! I was wondering, do people still give out the chocolate cigars or lollipops? Is it really necessary?

Are there other 'new' ideas on the market? (Not like waiting till the last minute or anything..haha!)

TIA!

It's not really tradition the way it used to be, no. We have 3 kids, and this last time with #3, when DH came in to work afterwards, his friend passed out chocolate cigars. But that was the only time.

I did Hershey's bars with our first with a custom label (did it myself) but for #2, nada.

My MIL brought bubble gum cigars to the hospital when DD was born for DH to pass out. I found it odd as she didn't do it with DN#1 or DN#2 but maybe she sees it as a guys think? Most people refused them and I had a third of a box for about a month before I chucked all but 3 to keep as keepsakes. I wouldn't buy them myself.

My DH brought those candy baby bottles to work.
