View Full Version : Do I have to wear a pencil skirt?

I want/need a new (nice) black skirt. Every skirt I have seen on-line is a pencil skirt. I look horrible in pencil skirts - just not right for my body. So will I look hopelessly unfashionable if I wear something other than a pencil skirt? And where would I find one that is not a pencil skirt?

Thanks!

i hate pencil skirts, as i don't have the shape for them at all...VERY unflattering for my body type. i usually have to wear A-line skirts.

it's been a long time, but i usually got a nice skirts at Ann Taylor or AT loft. i don't think they were unfashionable. when i worked i got almost all my work/dressy clothes at Ann Taylor.

Post-baby I feel like I'm a little too full in the hips to look good in a pencil skirt, except that I tried the one at American Apparel and it really looked great. It's in the interlock fabric, which is nice and substantial but also soft, and it's higher-waisted so it kind of sucks things in a bit, but comfortably.

Thanks! I think I look better in A line also, but they don't seem to be anywhere, so I didn't know if that meant they were no longer allowed in public ;)

We do have an American Apparel, so I may check that out too!

Thanks!

J Crew has a nice A-line suiting skirt.
