DD's daycare uses this type of table for feeding the kids, as well as art projects, etc:

The uses this seat:

According to DD's OT, this seat is not ideal because DD is still too small for it, and leans forward when eating. We need to add some sort of 5-point harness so that DD's shoulder are positioned against the back of the seat and she can't lean all the way forward.

We've tried a bunch of different things that haven't worked, and our next idea is buying a replacement seat and creating some sort of 5-point harness to attach to it.

Does this type of product exist? Either a 5-point harness that could slip theough the two seatbelt holes in the existing seat, or a seat that would fit the table that already has a 5-point harness? Our budget is under $50, because this seat would most likely be used for only a up to 8 weeks or so until DD gets a bit bigger.

We have thought of a freestanding highchair, but then DD would be separated from the other kids and it is very important to us that she has the socialization at the table. A bumbo type seat won't work, because then it would be placed on the floor. Any ideas?

Ok, I have several thoughts:
1. Does the teacher sit at that little cut out part? If not, you could pull a highchair up to the table there and not use a tray. I know our Graco is designed to do that.
2. I know that there is some sort of strap that they sell to convert a 3 pt. harness into a 5 point, and I remember seeing it posted here before- maybe to switch over a shopping cart cover? I'd either try searching for the thread (it was a long time ago- possibly 2 or 3 years ago), or post again asking about that product in the subject line.
3. If that doesn't work, how about a cart cover stuck into the seat?

4. One challenge with that seat is that the back is so low, so you might have a hard time with any type of harness. However, one way to rig one would be to buy some really long strips of velcro (you can buy it by the yard at a fabric store in different widths- use a 40% coupon at Hobby Lobby or Joann's). Just wrap it around through the bottom strap, behind her, then back to the starting point, kwim? If it's itchy, you could make a fabric sleeve to slip it through. You wouldn't even have to sew it- you could just hot glue it, or use hem tape.

Could you clip something like the Phil and Ted's Me Too high chair onto the table? It has a 4 point harness. My only concern with that would be if the table is unsteady, the weight from the chair tipping the table. We have used this seat since both of our kids could sit, and have found very few tables it didn't work on for us.

Maybe something like this would help?

http://myhuggabebe.com/index.php

I happened to see it on Amazon the other day while looking at other stuff and thought it looked like an interesting idea. My only concern is that it would get really dirty using it at the table, but it does say it is washable and it's not too expensive.

Also wonder if you could use something like this?

You'd probably have to make some sort of slits in the back of the seat itself to pass the belt through.

:yeahthat:. Thats what I was going to suggest, especially since you only need this for a few weeks. I have the Eddie Bauer one from target and it has an over the shoulder harness. That would be an easy fix if it works.

Thanks to everyone for all of the suggestions. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to get back on last night to reply.

We have tried the Hugga-Bebe, but it is not ideal for positioning, plus it comes up too high on DD's chest to allow for full range of motion. We're experimenting with using just one half.

The Eddie Bauer shopping cart cover was too large to stuff into the seat, and also, we realized when trying this that we need something to go around the back of the seat, or DD just leans forward along with the harness.

The teacher does sit at the spot where the table curves in, and the seats themselves don't turn, so putting a highchair there is not an option (then the teacher would not be facing the other kids).

Adding a clip on highchair is a safety concern and I don't think the daycare would allow that.

However, I think I found something that might work, similar to this item that mousemom suggested:
http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=536659

It's this shopping cart cover from BRU:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3331861

The backrest piece and "seatbelt" are separate from the piece of fabric that covers the shopping cart handle. It fits in the yellow bucket seat at daycare pretty well and I can fasten the seatbelt around the back of the seat. The seatbelt seems wide enough to support DD fairly well while not placing too much pressure on any one location on her chest/abdomen.

Ironically, it received awful reviews on TRU as a shopping cart cover, but it looks like it will work for my needs.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions. It was through looking through all of the posted links and browsing similar items that I found this particular item. I'm still open to all suggestions though! :)
